  1. He's done but not yet up and moving. Vet in ER surgery so I have not talked to him.
  2. Oatmeal. Call the vet and check in with him.
  3. I just dropped off my sweet, 13 1/12 yr old boy. I am a wreck. In addition to the dental he will get a depo medrol shot. He is such a good boy. He's slept, he's eaten and seems to be doing pretty good. Now he is yodeling.....I don't want him to eat to much yet. He yodels when he wants more to eat. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8/18 He ate more, he slept. He is coughing a bit from the tube. Hopefully the antirobe will get that? Guess I have to call the vet <sigh> All, in all, for an old man with back issues, he did great! Here's hoping that injection works well for several months.
  4. Of course I remember....sending my sympathy Wish you were around more!
  5. Sending my sympathy Another beautiful angel....
  6. Now I remember I know you are not asking about acupuncture, but it helps to know the vet you are using re background. I'd have to ask my vet and she just left my house....I'll email her.
  7. It's complicated and I don't understand 1% of it and have been using a vet who practices eastern medicine since around 1996. Not sure why you switched, but it might be to your advantage to use the other vet also and see if they can come up with a treatment plan. Is the new vet IVAS?
  8. Pooping from SA took me awhile to understand (thanks GHLady ) They can't help it. They lose muscle control and it just comes out. Heart was SO bad -- always pee & poop when left alone (without humans), could not be crated nor gated. I double carpeted the areas (she almost always went in the same place) and ignored it -- cleaned it up without saying a word and cleaned or removed top carpet piece as needed.
  9. I'd do a tick panel before anything else.
  10. The best thing I did for Isaac was allergy testing. Straightened up his poop and he is so much happier. Strange things: I kept away from chicken and fed turkey. He is allergic to turkey and not chicken! He is allergic to rice, lamb, peas, turkey and yeast as well as some weeds and grasses. Removing the food allergies has helped a lot. The tests cost around $200 and well worth the money.
  11. Yes to above re pred and tests. To diagnose IBD you must scope and biopsy the colon. Sending prayers.
  12. I'm not kidding. I've driven to Jekyll Island for Sandy Paws I wouldn't take him tomorrow. Let him get better before putting him in the treadmill again. Almost all of the dogs I've tried to move to raw got the trots. The only rawish food that my guys do consistanly well with is BilJac frozen (which I believe you can get in Savannah)
  13. If he is whining and looking at his butt there is a possibility he is in pain. Drive to Houston and we will take care of you
  14. Is the dog in the states? Chiropractic really helps regarding the oops poops
  15. I think 13 minutes is too much. Plus he is on pain meds which is not good because you can't judge how bad he is. Usually 2 - 3 times a week -- so the muscles can regenerate. My vet would not exercise him that often, nor build him up that quick.
  16. Burpdog

I so know how you feel. I wish I could write tributes as well as you have and others have. He reminds me of Princess and Willie and several others. All I can think of is how fortunate you found each other. He went in love -- all greyhounds should be so fortunate. Sending my sympathy
  17. Might also try a fan on her or around the area she eats in to move the air and she will think it's cooler
  18. Sounds like they are doing it ok regarding time, however, I don't think it's suppose to be everyday (I'll check). I have no idea why they don't want you in there. My vet has the dog treadmill in full site of anyone who goes thru the door from the reception room and encourages the owners to encourage the dogs. Grace would go nuts if she couldn't see me. Huston could care less. Grace at first we had to push in. Huston -- take off the collar and lead and he walks in from across the room (vet has a video of it). He loves that treadmill.
  19. If I couldn't go he wouldn't go. How long are they doing water therapy? Is it an underwater treadmill? I've seen people who don't know what they are doing seriously injure a dog. Never should a dog go more than 20 minutes. They should start around 2 minutes. Do you have any idea what they are doing and for how long?
  20. I taught 4H dog obedience and had many state champions and quite a few that went on to get their AKC CDs. Because I came from a working dog background (danes & dobes) I (notice the I) had a bit of a problem with hounds in the groups. Today, I wouldn't. I would follow the advice to get a willing to please greyhound. Tell the group what you want to do. Also, keep in mind this greyhound will hopefully live past your daughter's time at home, so don't just get one for her. Must be for both of you I have had both those who would have done well in obedience and not so well I would visit the 4H group you want to join and see how they train. Also keep in mind, off lead with a retired racer may or may not be possible. Some never lose the "get the bunny" click in their head.
  21. I bet it's more than "may" Once she bonds to you she believes it is forever.....just saying....
  22. I had a Dane with glacoma. Removed the eye and she was fine. The one thing I did that I will never do again is have a prothesis put in. If I had one with glacoma, I wouldn't hesitate to remove the eye to stop the pain and remove the potential side effects of the drops.
