  1. Did they do a urine culture? Which antibiotic is he on? Is he on carafate?
  2. Does the husband snore? Here is a good article http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=3189
  3. Once they recovered from surgery, I fed normal. I've had 3 bloat - 2 Danes and a Dobe. One Dane I set to the bridge because she had a multitude of problems (Addison's for one -- she would not have survived the surgery). The other Dane lived another 5 or so years with no recurrence and she did NOT have her stomach stapled down. Vet said it was more successful in cows than dogs. The Dobe did not have surgery -- he was just tubed (even though 3 vets swore he was going into or in torsion--I insisted they tube him because he had a multitude of issues and I doubt he would have lived thru surgery). He lived another 6 months with no recurrence and no further bloating. All 3 were, in my opinion (and I've talked to vets about this) due to high stress situations going on at the time. Vet told me they had a cocker spaniel bloat while boarding. All of my dogs were fed from shoulder high feeders after the first Dane bloated. The Purdue study, imo, is jaded because they used show dogs -- all high stress. So, I probably didn't answer your question LOL I'd go with canned or meat until she recovers. Then, if she was mine, I'd feed whatever and make sure I followed the exercise "rules". I also do not feed if I know a high stress situation such as going to the vet, thunder for a thunder phobic dog, etc. they can eat late -- won't hurt them
  4. 3 cups is not that much. They sell tripe in cans. Solid Gold makes it and one other who I can't remember. For all you know, they changed one ingredient in the dog food and he doesn't like it. Try the boiled meat or a different kibble and see if he eats it. Many years ago I had a friend who fed ProPlan for years and then her dogs got sick and she had to switch.
  5. Try a different kibble like grain free BilJac (don't add much water) or grain free Wellness turkey. Buy a small bag or sample bag. Try boiled meat and see if he will eat it. Especially with seniors, I believe they eat what their bodies need. Remember Magic? She ate WalMart chickens for 13 months (except for a week or two of kibble) Can you get frozen BilJac there?
  6. If I had a T4 drop that much, I would do a panel at MSU -- it is not that expensive. You don't have to have symptoms like coat changes, weight gain or loss to have a problem. Sometimes the dog is just "off" a little.
  7. The TSH test is not as accurate in dogs as it is in humans. In a senior dog, a low T4 can be a sign of a sick thyroid, however, at some point you need to make a choice about quality of life. when a dog has a very low T4 and is sleeping 22 hours a day, there is a need for thyroid meds espcially in a senior. I would not medicate a younger dog without the thryoid panel. I am sure there are other places that do a panel, but MSU is very affordable and I bet much cheaper than other labs.
  8. Sending my sympathy A beautiful girl....
  9. Have them do a urine culture, not just a test in the office. I would never use Proin.

Sending my sympathy I know your pain....
  11. Bone biopsies are very painful. The fine needle aspirate, not so much. I have done xrays and my vet sends them to a radiologist. If neither can say one way or the other, we re-xray in 2-4 weeks depending on how it progresses. Once you have a few of the osteo kids, you know before the xray confirms it.
  12. Huston doesn't eat well some days in the morning. He's ready around 11 and at night sometimes at 5 and sometimes at 8 -- many times he will eat 2 - 3 times. I find the advanced age seniors like to eat between 10 and 12 at night.
  13. Holistic and alternative medicine is a little different and there are good vets and not so good in all of modern medicine including MDs. I don't know what happened but Eastern medicine has around a 3000 yr history of successful treatment.
  14. I'd ask for tramadol and stay away from the NSAIDs. He may need another shot and you would have to postpone it.
  15. Sending my sympathy What a beautiful angel!
  16. Super. Some people just don't believe in 3000 yrs of history I have seen it work time and time again. All my dogs (around 25) have received both and it has helped tremendously.
  17. I was so looking forward to seeing him at MH this year. What a gentle, brave soul he is. Remember: see him running and playing
  18. Both, then let the vet choose based on the results. Also, laser is very good.
