  1. They don't know what they are talking about. Can anyone in that are help with a vet? I've p.m.'d my phone number
  2. PLEASE tell her what it is -- a side effect of Rimadyl. I could say a lot but it won't help him. Sending prayers.
  3. I also remember. Sending my sympathy for your loss, but also tons of hugs and joy because of what she and the others brought to your life.
  4. He should have been put on IVs to flush out his system and monitor all values and kept hospitalized for several days. You must insist that this is a side effect of Rimadyl and if they don't know how to treat a drug reaction, they need to send you to someone who does.
  5. Home » Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) | Advanced Search THE PET HEALTH LIBRARYBy Wendy C. Brooks, DVM, DipABVP Educational Director, VeterinaryPartner.com Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) (Formerly known as autoimmune hemolytic anemia or AIHA) Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia is a condition where the patient’s immune system begins attacking her own red blood cells. What occurs on a microscopic level is that the branch of the immune system that produces antibodies begins to direct them against the patient’s own red blood cells. The red blood cells quickly become coated with tiny antibody proteins, essentially marking these red blood cells for destruction. When too many red blood cells are destroyed the patient is said to be anemic and will feel cold and weak. Because the red blood cells are being destroyed internally (and not lost through bleeding), the patient will become yellow-tinged (jaundiced) rather than pale (see picture below). http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=1390 it can be caused by Rimadyl and I know because rimadyl killed my first greyhound. And yes, it could happen from one dose
  6. The vet should have kept him and monitored him. Rimadyl can cause IMHA and that is very serious. Tell them to treat as if it is a side effect of the Rimadyl. The faster they are, the better his chance of surviving. If they don't believe you, tell them to read the product insert.
  7. Sending my sympathy A special girl found a special family -- can't ask for anything more
  8. I strongly suggest you do allergy tests instead of trial & error and inferior foods. This place is affordable and they gear the tests to your area of the country: http://www.varlallergy.com/
  9. I am very sad Sending my sympathy

    Please give them my sympathy
  11. IBD needs to be diagnosed with a colon biopsy, otherwise you are guessing. Z/D is really bad food Where do you live?
  12. I never withhold water from any of the dogs. If there was an infection, vet should have done a urine culture. I think they have to be off atbs for two weeks. Try some pepcid and see if that helps. What she has been on may be upsetting her stomach and she is over drinking to stop the pain (yes, they do that)
  13. I still remember Shadow waking up, turning around to his butt, smelling the turd in HIS bed and he got up and ran away with a look of disgust trying to figure out who pooped there Many times I would be able to clean it up without waking him I have so many stories....I love the seniors so much in spite of the late stage problems. Patience and figuring out different ways to do things.
  14. A few of my seniors have had oops poops and sleep turds. I never said anything -- just cleaned it up. I firmly believe chiropractic helps with this issue and urinary incontinence.
  15. I wouldn't use a NSAID but that is me. Try Fresh Factors from Springtime Inc. and the cold laser. Also acupuncture. Where do you live?
  16. Anne of Majestic Collars had a grey with it for many years.
  17. Linda Arndt (The Great Dane Lady) has been around awhile and has some good info on her website. I tried Precise a few years ago (probably not the right one) and didn't like the results. I only tried one kind and if I tried it again, I'd choose a different formula. http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/feed_program_for_all_breeds_ages_sizes_2012.htm another take on feeding large breeds: http://www.mydog8it.com/puppy_care.htm I can tell you this is a total turn around from 46 years ago when I got my first Dane. I believe the change has come around due to better dog food. The last Dane I owned grew from 34# to 130# in around 7 months. I used a puppy food and supplemented one small bottle of calcium. This was back in the late 80s. So, in 20 years it had changed tremendously. Now, another 20 years later, I can see the reason for more change.

  20. Just be careful with the BilJac kibble and don't put any water or sprinkle a very little bit on & mix. Too much water and it turns to concrete
  21. Finally, after almost a year, found one he likes! BilJac grain free. He & Huston are doing well on it. The other two are eating Instinct Turkey LD grain free. Huston actually eats both. At his age, Huston can have anything he wants
