  1. Worming schedule sounds good Welcome to greyhoundland
  2. Have you done a thyroid panel on him from Michigan State?
  3. I don't think age has anything to do with presurgery blood work and I would do it with any dog going under. Even then, it won't show everything that might be wrong.
  4. The one dog I had to take to the vet was Mahogany. She was just awful and it wasn't worth it. She lived with long nails most of the time I had her
  5. Is your vet familiar with greyhounds? Where are you located? I've had many live into their teens.
  6. 12 1/2 is not old. I would not feed a senior 36% protein however (I would not feed my younger ones that high a protein either) Any good senior food he will eat should be fine Some that come to mind that are not senior but fit into the parameters are Solid Gold Mmellenia, Solid Gold Hundeflocken, Annamet reduced fat, Prairie beef or chicken, BilJac kibble and BilJac frozen.
  7. Try 400IU of vitamin E per day (orally) Arid Xtra dry might work around the sore -- most dogs hate it
  8. Definitely check with vet. 11 is very young.
  9. I've seen lots of seniors have an ok urine in the office yet respond to antibiotics. If you have a vet that is willing to give her clavamox for 14 days (or even keflex) I'd do it and see if she settles down. You will know in about 4 days.
  10. btw -- I forgot to mention that Huston may eat ALL of what I mentioned in one night He does like variety. Now he has added BilJac frozen to the menu. re above: try finding a food without peas these days (Isaac was allergic to them)
  11. Sometimes when they are due for their rabies at an advanced age, I "forget" Depends on the dog whether I do any vaccines after age 8. If they have raced and received shots for the first 3 or 4 years of their life, I may do one more booster -- except for bordatella which I will do if we are going to an event.
  12. Sending my sympathy What a stunning boy! I'm sure a lot of hearts are going pitter patter in Rainbow Land
  13. I've fed BilJac (dry & frozen) on and off for 40+ years and they do great on it.
  14. Their needs change as they age. Also their tastes. If he likes the salmon based food and does well on it, feed it to him! Right now Huston is eating (depending on his mood): BilJac senior kibble, Solid Gold Hund N Flocken, Solid Gold Mmellenia and Annamet Grain Free Lean Reduced Fat Formula (chicken base) All the dogs like the Annamet and I think you can get it up where you are. I have to order it from Amazon
  15. Sending my sympathy. I would be very suspect of the groomer and would never take a dog to be groomed unless I personally knew the groomer and even then I would hesitate.

I so know how you feel Makes it very hard when they don't want to go. Sending my sympathy and hugs. I'm smiling thinking of him doing therapy in Rainbow Land.
  17. I had a dobe that would eat nylon footies. I swear I was careful and I have no idea where she got them. Fortunately she pooped them out. When they wouldn't come all the way, I'd cut them off and eventually she'd get them out. I had a dobe that one time ate an entire pair of panty hose. That too came out and we were lucky. My vet the week before last removed 5 or 6 pacifers all nicely lined up in a row from a dog. I know a dobe that died from a tennis ball. I think his vets were remiss in not opening him up. It was in there for 6 months.
  18. He seems to be fine. He has eaten. Sores on his legs from thrashing. I forgot to ask how bad the vet tech got bit Always follow your gut feeling. I have said that to people time and time again. Had I done that I would have not used the compounded "stuff" and went and gotten the "good stuff", and this would not have happened. I said to the vet as I was leaving: had he not stayed this morning, he would be dead. Thank goodness the vet thought he didn't quite look right
  19. Hund N Flocken is now poison. Roast beef: No Chicken & Bil Jac: No Yogurt: yes Old Chicken kibble: yes Cottage cheese: yes Mmellenia: yes BilJac kibble: No Cookies: yes
