  1. I think the one we are using is about 12% fat. They have a Large Breed Weight Management formula that is 9% so you may want to try that one. https://www.proplan.com/dogs/products/focus-adult-weight-management-large-breed-formula
  2. Have you tried adding Olewo carrots to each meal? They have really worked well for lots of us here. Rocket has been on Tylan for several year for stress colitis, but the carrots really firmed things up. Also, we just tried Purina Focus Large Breed Adult Food because he was having stomach issues on his previous food, and with a 10 day slow changeover, we now have a much smaller volume coming out of him, and it usually bounces when it hits the ground. There is also a senior version of that food as well, but the local store didn't have it so we ended up with the regular large breed version. The senior has a higher percentage of protein, but also is a few percent higher in fat. So far the Adult Large Breed version has been great. Someone else on GT whose hound has similar issues to Rocket also had great success with it. That's how we found out about it.
  3. What a handsome dude! Paws crossed here and waiting for the update later today.
  4. Amazon has Bright Mind Senior Large Breed 7+, but they now label it as Bright Mind instead of "Focus." It is also now "7+" instead of "Senior." Not sure if this is a change from what it was, or if there was just some confusion on my part since Focus and Bright Mind seem to be 2 different lines within that particular business segment of Purina. Local store had one but not the other. For now, I'm sticking with the Focus Large Breed Adult (actual product name) instead of the Senior since that's what we transitioned Rocket to and it is working well. Here's the link to the Bright Mind Large Breed 7+ (Senior.)
  5. Even though it will cost some more money, I'd ask your adoption group for a reference to a grey-savvy vet, or take her to a good vet-med school for a 2nd opinion. Otherwise you are always going to be wondering if any of this is necessary. Good luck!
  6. It looks like that one may not exist any more. There's one seller of it on Amazon at $ 97 per bag which makes me think the supply is ending or has ended. We completed the transition and Rocket loves this food. Even though he has a slight limp from the old racing injury, he is definitely displaying more energy than he has in a while. He is once again going our whole walking route which is about a mile instead of turning around a few blocks from the house. He is running, spinning, playing and just much livelier overall. He also is awake much more of the day instead of sleeping. The accupuncture vet can't see him until March due to scheduling issues, but this food seems to be helping both his overall energy and his stomach. Edited to add: We are just back from our walk - third day in row he has insisted on doing the full walk and didn't turn around to go home. I have to think that the food is giving him a better energy level and he's feeling better.
  7. We expect to see many many pictures of that little girl. Keep 'em coming!
  8. We used Trifexis for over a year after his previous monthly pill disappeared from the market. We found over time that each time it was given, it took 2 days or so before Rocket was back to normal. While the side effects weren't major, he just wasn't himself and obviously didn't feel good each time we gave it. The effect seemed to get worse as time went on, and there was enough info on adverse reactions coming out simultaneously that it started to concern me. We changed to Sentinel and have had no more side effects or issues.
  9. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. Over the years, some members here have experienced similar tragedies, so no need to feel alone in that respect. Each of us here feels every loss deeply, even the hounds we've never met. Run free, Cindy.
  10. Dosage was calculated by the vet based on weight. Rocket is a big boy at 86lbs so he can do 3 times. Going to ask the vet about accupuncture for Rocket. He has an old racing injury that is making him a little gimpy, so if it will help with digestion too, that's a plus. We are actually transitioning to the Purina Focus Large Breed food you suggested now. We had another week of waking up to tummy squeals and gurgles after this thread started, so I picked up a bag and have been doing a slow changeover. Everything is starting to improve at the halfway point. Good info. Thanks!
  11. It tends to interfere with sleep with some hounds. When we lived in IL, Rocket wore pajamas on excessively cold nights and would sleep through the night with the PJ's on. If he didn't have them on, he would be up and pacing, as well as restless in the wee hours. You might consider something like a light flannel or fleece housecoat for her to wear at night. Houndtime.com makes one that is just about perfect for dogs who don't need full pajamas but need something for the chill. Irene is a member here and makes great coats.
  12. At least it's only YouTube. Be glad that it wasn't Amazon. Seriously though, is he licking much? Could it just be from saliva / wet skin and fur from the area not drying completely? Just a thought.
  13. If you get tripe you can make menudo for her!
  14. All good advice above. If you don't want to have to cook chicken, I have routinely used Evanger's Canned Organic Chicken for Rocket's bouts of colitis and mixed that with over-cooked mushy rice or pasta for the bland diet. It is nothing but cooked pureed chicken and digests even easier than boiled chicken because it is the consistency of any other wet dog food. I keep a case on had at all times so we don;t have to scramble to cook a chicken when it flares up. Be sure that your rice or pasta is overcooked with 2-3 times as much water as normal. it is much easier to digest that way. I also usually switch to 4 smaller meals a day instead of 2 so his stomach doesn't have to process as much in each feeding.
  15. Be careful reaching under him on his bed. Some hounds are subject to startle and sleep with eyes open. It's an easy way to get bitten.
  16. That's a beautiful tribute to your special boy. Thank you for sharing that. Run-free, Luka.
  17. Payton buddy, Dr. Rocket wanted me to make sure that his RX for Vanilla Ice Cream was being filled for you on a regular basis. A boy needs to keep up his strength. Hope you're getting a little better each day.
  18. He had a lot of Flagyl over the years. The Tylan stabilized things. I think there can also be some side effects with long term Flagyl use that our vet didn't want to chance. Rocket did great on Precise Foundation Chicken Meal and Rice and Precise Senior for years, but it just seemed after about 4 years he was having more issues and needed a change. We have had pretty good results on the Turkey and Potato as well as Olewo Carrots. Maybe with enough time, we can go back to a chicken and rice product if we need to. Thanks for the info.
  19. Not trying to hijack but I'm curious how Annie's colitis was affected by this food. Rocket has stress colitis and is on Tylan 3 times a day. For now, we are using Rachael Ray Turkey and Potato Grain Free with fairly good results, but I always want to have a Plan B for when they change the formula or the food stops working. Thanks.
  20. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl Run pain-free, Shelby.
  21. Welcome home Daisy! Rocket wants to know if you got the message he left near the statue when he was "Standing On The Corner In Winslow Arizona."
