  1. I've been using the Evanger's for so long that I forgot there is such a thing as ground chicken....
  2. Rather than cooking chicken, I use Evanger's Organic Canned Cooked Chicken when Rocket needs a bland diet. It's the consistency of other wet dog foods, with no additives. It's easier than cooking a whole chicken, and it digests very easily. He gobbles it down. You can order it online or find it at many pet stores. I keep a case on hand at all times so I can feed a bland meal as soon as I realize we need it. I usually do a mix of overcooked rice (double the water and cook until it's gooey) and the Evanger's. Anytime we feed a bland diet, I switch to 4 smaller meals a day to make it easier on the tummy. I sometimes mix in some scrambled eggs. Once stools are a little more solid, I will slowly re-introduce kibble 1/4 cup at a time. if you do end up cooking a chicken, cook it by itself and be sure to rinse it to remove any residual grease.
  3. Beautiful tribute. Run-free, Wiki.
  4. Most everything and everyone he sees is new to him. Nothing to worry about - he's just settling in.
  5. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. You have lost too many, way too soon. Run free, Greta.
  6. Make sure to leave TV or a radio on low to mute noises from outside. Just some background noise may help.
  7. We have a sleep startle hound who has bitten twice. Both times were human-caused by those who knew better than to reach down by him (one of them was me.) We announce ourselves anytime we walk near him if he's laying down. 3AM on his own bed? I announce myself if I get up and walk by. Laying in the floor and looks like he's watching TV? I announce myself before I walk by. Many of these hounds sleep with their eyes open. The "third-eye" deal sometimes makes it look like they are awake when they aren't. We don't have kids so I didn't have that as a consideration when the incidents happened, but both times that he bit, the human reached down by him without thinking about it and startled him - definitely not his fault. We've not had the issue ever again since we announce ourselves, but we also know that he is not a snuggler. If he wants to put his head on my lap while I'm on the floor, I let him, but continue talking to him. He often sleeps with his legs wrapped around my feet when I'm in a chair. I always call him and wake him up before moving (no touching - just call him until he wakes up and knows where he is).
  8. We are heartbroken here. Even though we never got to meet Taylor in person, he and Face have been a part of my daily life for years. Mark and I became friends pretty quickly here on GT, and it is rare that we miss a day of talking by phone, or at a minimum trading text messages if we are otherwise busy. Taylor is one of Rocket's many cousins. I only wish that I had been healthy enough over the past few years to make a trip to Florida to meet the boys. My health issues didn't allow it, but "The Boyz" (all 3 of them) are part of our family. There will never be enough words, or the right words. Taylor had a fantastic life, and you kept your promise to him. There is no greater gift you could have given him. Run pain-free, Taylor. I'm sure Chef Seamie has to keep re-stocking the Bacon Bar now that you have joined the party at the Bridge.
  9. Run pain-free, Cuzzin Taylor. Cuzzin Rocket
  10. I know how much she meant to you, Ducky. i'm so sorry she had to leave early. Run free, sweet Egypt.
  11. Our friends in the UK use the term "re-home" the way we use "adopt." For the UK folks, "re-home" here in the US means to find the dog another home or to return the hound to the adoption group when things don't work out or there are extenuating circumstances and an owner can no longer keep the hound. There's been confusion about this term here many times in the past. We don't have any of those foods you are asking about over here, so local replies will be your best source of info.
  12. One more thing - if your dog is okay with chewing, you could try some CET chews or Bully Sticks. The CET chews have an enzyme in them that helps keep teeth clean. The bully sticks require a fair amount of chewing, and help with cleaning also. I find that the Supreme or Thick Bully sticks work best. Anything else is pretty thin and the hound can chew right through them without having to chew for very long.
  13. It really depends on what the issues are. If the dog has any pain from the dental issues, then a vet dental is most likely needed. If you are just trying to clean up the teeth and gums, then the Oratene Water additive is pretty good. Oratene also makes a gel that you can apply to the gums and teeth. Results take weeks to months, but there is overall improvement with regualr use of the products. You can also brush the dog;s teeth if they'll allow it - many do and the canine toothpaste comes in Peanut Butter and other flavors so the dog thinks it's a treat. There are even a few hounds here who allow their owners to use an electric toothbrush on them.
  14. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. Run pain-free, Belle.
  15. I remember Charley. I'm so sorry for the loss of your handsome boy. Run free, Charley.
  16. I'm so sorry for your loss, Bill. Run pain-free, Darren.
  17. i'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet boy. Run free, DaVid.
  18. You need a better closeup of it. From far away it looks like it could be a tapeworm but the photo isn't close enough to tell for sure.
  19. I'm so sorry, Jackie. We will miss that sweet girl on the beach. Run free, Dazzle.
  20. They will be fine. Rocket has a small back yard - probably 50 x 20, if that. It might be smaller. He still does zoomies round the yard when he feels like it, but hasn't run off leash in years. The last time we went to an off-leash place 2 years ago, he decided he'd rather hang out with the humans even though he could go anywhere in the park that he wanted, and never did anything but explore and sniff around a little - no running.
  21. I carry this folding hand truck in the car when I take boxes to UPS or have to handle some large item. I bought mine at Big Lots years ago for 25 bucks. It is a back saver. It folds flat and you can maneuver some really large boxes on it. Might be worth having since it takes up almost no room. https://www.amazon.com/Personal-Capacity-Aluminum-Folding-Silver/dp/B000HVVSDU
