kickchick2000 Posted May 1, 2013 Share Posted May 1, 2013 Today I picked up Milky Way's ashes and I think after a week I'm finally ready to post about him. Milky Way was my best friend for the past 10 years. I adopted him when he was 3 years old and I was 21. I had no qualifications to be a pet owner, I lived an an apartment, was still in college, and only worked part time but one adoption group saw beyond everything and for that I'll be forever grateful. Milky Way opened my eyes to the world of rescue and as a result he ended up teaching me that my heart is bigger than I ever could have imagined. Milky Way and I did a lot of things together, he saw me through college graduation, my first job, a career change, buying a house and getting married. He was an ambassador not just for greyhounds but for every breed, he went to all sorts of fundraisers and events,he helped search for lost greyhounds, he marched in parades, he competed in the dog Olympics, he did a professional photo shoot, and he even walked the runway with a model at a fashion show. Milky Way had the most amazing personality and from the moment he came into my life he changed it for the better. Milky Way was calm, silly, regal, beautiful, and the most well behaved boy I could ever have asked for. Most of all he loved me in a way I can never describe and I loved him back, he was truly my heart dog. Milky Way was diagnosed with Laryngeal Paralysis 2 months ago and his hind end had been getting weaker since October, we tried several things which helped for a while but last Sunday night he just gave up and collapsed on his bed. I can't describe it but I looked into his eyes, they seemed cloudy and his spirit was fading. I slept with him on the floor that night and he was fine but I finally just knew and so Monday April 22 at 2pm I helped him peacefully cross over. I miss him so much and our house just isn't the same without him. No matter how much my heart hurts right now I would never have traded these last 10 years for anything, and I'm so lucky to have been him mom for all that time. The first photo is from his 11th birthday and it's the photo I think shows his silly goofy side. The second photo I debated about posting because it was the last photo I took of him that afternoon but it sums up our entire life together without saying a word.
