Spent The Night In Emergency..

Neko is back in ICU today... He was puking a lot yesterday (twice in the afternoon) and I was awoken by my cat at 4 am to find that neko had vomited all over the kitchen and diarrhea-ed all over the living room. I was taking him into OSU to get one more blood draw this morning anyways, and he had a super-wattery diarrhea accident on their floor. He slept out in the living room last night (which he never does) probably because he had to go potty, but this morning he was acting like he felt pretty crappy.

They are very worried about him, and decided to keep him all day to give him IV fluids and maybe a transfusion if his PCV is still around 15%. They are going to do thoracic radiograph because apparently there is one last cancer he could possibly have and if his diarrhea doesnt clear up by tonight they will do another abdominal ultrasound.

He's staying there all day and maybe overnight.. my poor baby :(

Darn it.

I've been following this thread from the beginning and it sounded like he

was actually getting a little better.

Darn it.

Saying more prayers for you and your boy, hoping they can get this figured out

once and for all and he can start on the road to recovery.

I just found this thread looking for information on greyhound coagulation information...can I just say you're a wonderful greyhound mom! Neko's case seems to be very complex and frightening, I seriously commend you for staying so strong! Are you pre-vet at OSU? I ask because I'm a 2nd year vet student at Tufts with my own greyhounds as (somewhat common) visitors to our own hospital. Anyway, I think you're doing an admirable job and Neko is in my thoughts!

In thinking about non-cancer causes of aplastic anemia I remember how cryptorchids are at a very high risk for developing Sertoli cell tumors which can cause hyperestrogenism. Estrogen is a bone marrow toxin and as such is an uncommon cause of aplastic anemia. Is there any chance that Neko was a cryptorchid and his non-descended testicle wasn't removed during his neuter? You've surely got an amazing team of experts that must be thinking about all the possibilities, but I thought I'd just throw it out there.

My thoughts go out to you and Neko, you're both doing great!
