Walliered
He cried all night and walked and walked. He could not lay down. He has screwed up his back and is back at vet's hooked up to a drip. Walliered
I took his food to him early this morning, but he would not eat. They had just taken him outside and he was still hurting from that when I got there. I was able to get a Gamapatin (spelling) down him and after about 30 minutes he went to sleep. They have cleared out a back room for him and I took his Virginia Peak huge bed. She did not want to crate him (she knows my hound). I am going back in a couple of hours and take him his dinner. She is my regular vet and not the surgeon that did his back surgery. It has been 9 weeks since the surgery. My regular vet says it will take months before he is finally healed. You know, friends, I did not let Huck hurt but 1 week before I ended it. I am not into letting Da Vid hurt either. Does anyone know anything about this damn back surgery and how long it takes to heal? Thanks
Walliered
Took food again to him to night. He had not touched the food I left this morning. I tried to hand feed him his dinner. He would not touch it. I also tried to give him some water. No water either. Vet is going to give him a bag of water between his shoulder blades. She told me it takes two of them to lay him down. Once he is down he relaxes and sleeps. She said his prognosis is good and she just thinks it will be a long haul.

You know, friends, I did not let Huck hurt but 1 week before I ended it. I am not into letting Da Vid hurt either. Does anyone know anything about this damn back surgery and how long it takes to heal? Do you know which disc it was, and what procedure was done? For a typical back surgery for a ruptured disc, I would have to disagree about the time frame. The dog should not still be in significant pain 9 weeks out from surgery. The pain from the disc compression is usually immediately relieved by the surgery, and then it's just dealing with the post-op pain which should be mostly gone by the time sutures come out in 2 weeks. If there were neurologic deficits before surgery, regain of full function can take several weeks to months, but I wouldn't expect much pain during that recovery period. I'd be concerned that there's something more going on. Do you have the option of traveling to see a neurologist?
