Rascal (RT's Rascal) 5/12/99--12/1/11

Early last evening we said goodbye to our dear little Rascal--her daddy's little princess.

We got Rascal on 9/8/11, when she was just a bit over two years old. She truly was the perfect dog--especially for first-time adopters like us. She didn't care about our cats, she liked our kids, she really had no issues at all. Doug and Nancy Hanson (queenwinniesmom) were her foster parents, and they did a great job of getting her used to retirement living. Rascal remembered Doug and Nancy--and was always delighted to see them. Occassionally Doug would stop by to see Rascal, when his job brought him within a few blocks of our house, and what a welcome he would get! It was really a testament to what awesome foster parents they are.

Two months later, we adopted Buddy. Later on, Nancy told us that they knew whoever got Rascal would adopt again--she was that perfect. Rascal and Buddy adored each other. About a year later, we found Rascal's sister, Ruby, and adopted her. What a joy it was to have those two sisters. They always seemed to be together--it was rare to get a picture of one without the other one nearby.

Our sweet Buddy died in March 2009. :( I was comforted by the fact that I still had my 'twins'. They were immense comfort to me just six weeks later, when my daughter died very suddenly and unexpectedly.

In May 2009, I took Rascal to the vet to have a suspicious-looking lump looked at. This could not have come at a worse time, only one month after my daughter died. The lump turned out to be cancer--hemangiopericytoma--and Rascal had surgery for it. The vet warned me that it would 'probably' come back, but added, 'hopefully not in her lifetime'.

Unfortunately, the lump came back last January. Just in the past couple of weeks, it became extremely large, and started to ulcerate. Still, Rascal seemed to feel good--she would bark at her daddy every night, to see how many treats she could get out of him. She was still frisky, playful.

The past two weeks, though, we saw her declining. She could no longer leave the lump alone--and it was looking awful. We knew the time was near, and last night she went to find her sister, Ruby, who left us on 8/23/11.

Godspeed, my pretty princess. We love you, and miss you. You were the one who 'started it all' for us, and we will never, ever forget you.

(Sorry there aren't more pictures....two dogs in three months leaves you feeling a little shell-shocked. :()

Phoebe (Belle's Sweetpea) adopted 9/2/13.

I think my heart broke a little bit when I saw she had passed. I know all to well the devastation of losing two so close together. She's probably already found Ruby And Buddy and they are all tucked safely in Elizabeths arms. I'm so sorry for your loss. Godspeed Rascal.

What a lovely thought and, I believe, true.

In that first picture, your beloved Rascal looks enough like my angel Zema to take my breath away.

I'm so sorry she couldn't stay longer. You took such good care of her and she of you.

Godspeed, precious girl.

I always thought that my girls looked SO much like Zema....I guess that's why I loved seeing pictures of Zema.
