In case you can't read Joe's rather broken English: He had a good time getting treats and petting from everyone he met. Dr. Couto said his lungs look clear (YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!) and that he is doing very well. He said that the little coughs I heard were likely just Joe clearing his throat, nothing to worry about -- especially since it was just two small coughs within a minute and that was it for coughing for 3 entire months. Way to put it in perspective Dr. C. I sure can worry about the smallest thing.

He feels that Joe's occasional whining at night (maybe once every 3 weeks) was "learned behavior"; not phantom pain. This is just his polite way of saying that I spoil Joe by waiting on him hand and foot. Apparently he has trained me that when he whines I am to try to let him out, pet him, rub his ears, give him some food, give him a treat and if none of that works; give him an even better treat. This started when I brought him home from the amputation surgery and he really did need help. Even though I don't respond to him in the middle of the night (unless he is really insistent ), he continues to try. Of course it really doesn't help matters that I tend to run to him during the day asking "What's wrong" if he whines even a little bit. Nervous mother hen--that's me.

I mentioned that Joe's face is getting so white and that his entire body is lighter than it used to be (Joe is a dark brindle). It hurt me to think that he was getting so old so quickly. Dr. C told me that a side affect of Palladia (a trial drug that Joe is on) is depigmentation of the hair. So that explains it all.

He was very happy with how well Joe was recovering from his fall 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Dr. Cristina hulled his corns for me.

One of the many things that I like about Dr. Couto is that he really understands the roller coaster ride we humans go on when we get a cancer diagnosis. When he and the student came into the waiting room to escort me to an exam room (after the x-ray), he gave me a thumbs up and a big smile as soon as he saw me. Of course I started to cry with relief and he gave me a big hug. I am so lucky to live where I live.

I would like to say that Joe thought of this himself -- but I told him that someone else on Greytalk came up with the name. Unfortunately I can't remember who it was so I can't give them the well-deserved credit.

I've been waiting to see this update - SO very happy that Joe's lungs are clear :yay

:nod As I read the first two sentences of this paragraph, my thought was exactly this..."Well of course he's learned that - because when they're just out of surgery, you ARE waiting on them hand and foot and you ARE responding to every peep that they make." And sure enough you read my mind with your third sentence! We are going through this with Pinky right now - up until now, any sort of noise she makes elicits a response from me because I want to know what's wrong...is she hurting, is she uncomfortable, does she have to pee? It's so hard to figure out sometimes :lol She's always been pretty quiet, but, she has learned just in the course of this past week that she gets hugs if she makes noise :lol

Hey Joe, my man, my foster bro!........Glad to hear your check up went well.

Way to go on the human training. I myownself have just figgered out that if I BARK, my hooman comes runnin & takes me out

for walk-about (snigger snigger...I didn't have to pee, I was just bored). The trick to that though, is to not use it too

much, or they figger out that you're just bein a butt (that last came from my mama, not me).

Take is easy on the lady....we has our repootations to uphold.
