Thank you everyone. I guess I'm still in a bit of shock. I'm just trying to plug away like normal as best I can. Faye Oops is resting comfortably on her bed right now.

I am so very sorry. It really sounded like arthritis.

As for what you will do - what you've always done, you'll love and cherish her and keep her happy for as long as you can.

I am so sorry you received this bad news. I truly hope one day soon, cancer will just be another word rather than a sentence.

Our Sugar just had shoulder cancer. started limping took her to our vet and yes it was cancer in her shoulder. E-mailed Dr. Couto and then took her out to OSU. They removed her front leg. She bounced back wonderful. It will be a month this week coming up. She was at OSU last monday and had a chemo treatment. That went well. Sometime during the night she had a spinal stoke. But is recovering. She can walk with asst.Dr. Couto and the gang are so wonderful and helpful. The call every day to check on her. They keep our vet updated on her meds that she is taking. If it would not of been for the stroke Sugar was doing wonderful.. If any one can help it is Dr Couto and osu.

I'm so so sorry to hear the news.

For what it's worth, I took my 12 yr old Diamond to OSU for consultation (from NJ) and ended up going the amp route. I had a very good 6 months with her. She was happy and got around just great. Her lungs stayed clear til the end. OS struck another leg, that's when we lost the battle.

Good luch in what ever decision you make. It'll not be easy, but remember you're doing it out of love for her.

This is such sad news. Faye Oops reminds me a lot of my angel Winnie. Laura, I'm so sorry---you and your sweet girl are in my prayers.

We took our greyhound Celeste to our regular vet today for her annual exam/shots. The vet we saw Friday was not our regular vet. Our regular vet knows Faye Oops and is experienced with ex-racers. So, we had her look over Faye Oops x-rays. It's definitely osteo. She said that we caught it early. She also said that it's less likely to be as aggressive in an older dog.

DH and I both decided (and our vet concurs) that palliative care is probably best in Faye Oops case. We're hoping that she will be with us - and comfortable - for a few more months. We have her on 100 mg of Tramadol 2x day. Plus, our vet gave us a script for Piroxicam 10 mg 1x per day. We're going to do blood work in a couple of weeks to make sure Faye Oops is doing OK with the meds.

We'll also be sending Faye Oops x-rays to the OSU Greyhound Program. We don't expect any different news, but perhaps the x-rays can be added to Dr. Couto's database for research.

On a lighter note... Faye Oops has been doing well the past two days. The weather is warmer and less dreary. She still limps, but not as bad. She continues - for now - to be our sweet and happy girl.
