Guest Spencers_Greyt Posted March 29, 2011 Share Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Update - Post #33 I just got the news today, Spencer, my 10.5 y/o Greyhound love of my life, has high grade malignant lymphoma. This happened super fast. I found a lump near his left front armpit and then another lump by his throat last week. I already had a suspicion but took him to the vet to aspirate the lumps which are swollen lymph nodes. While Spencer was at the vet, the vet found more lumps in other lymph node areas on his body. Unbelieveable how fast this has happened. Possible treatments are chemo and Prednisone. I'm choosing not to do either. Spencer is 10.5 years old and has herniated discs in his back causing hind end weakness. Spencer was on Prednisone a few years ago for his back problems and he was absolutely miserable on it - he was panting a lot and pacing and of course drinking gallons of water. I just want him to have the best quality of life he can have for the time he has left. Neither treatment would give him quality of life and enough of an expansion on his life to put him through it. The vet estimates 30-50 days left. So far Spencer is still loving to eat, playing with his toys, has bright, interested eyes and is generally the way he normally is. Unfortunately, I have gone through the cancer thing with another breed of dog so I know what to watch for and I'll know when it's time. I already talked to the vet and he said he would make himself available after hours so I won't have to deal with a lot of people around etc. when it's time to say the final goodbye. I adopted Spencer at the age of 3 and he is absolutely the most perfect Greyhound I have ever come across in the years since. I'm heartbroken.
