Guest hannahmom Posted February 21, 2011 Share Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Sometime Friday afternoon, Grover injested a pair of plastic food handlers gloves, and they became stuck in his small intestine. Emergency surgery yesterday AM removed the gloves, but there was so much fecal matter and necrotic bowel that we knew that infection might be a concern. He contracted peritonitis and slipped away this moring while blood work was being done to detemine if more surgery would be required. Grovie came to us just barely under 5 years ago as a return due to divorce. He had horrid teeth and nails that were so long that they curled under and if you reached for him, he screamed. He didn't respond at all to the name he had been called in his previous home. None of that stopped him from being a happy, sily boy who took about 2 days to seem as if he'd been here forever. He was a true cuddlebug. If he felt ignored, he would walk up and either crawl half into your lap or put his head under your hand and bump until you gave in and stopped what you were doing to love on him. He was the perrenial puppy - all elbows and knees and completely incapable of walking through a room without knocking something over. Once Chinghis passed away, Grover's personality took on another layer - that of a confident boy who would take care of Hannah and the Momma while on walks. He would woof when he wanted something and he always always did the happy dance when DH and I would come home. He would zoom around, always with a toy in his mouth. The command - "Go get your baby" was always good for 5 minutes of back and forth running through the house with the favorite toy de jour in his mouth. Each lap ended with him leaping on the couch to give the toy a chomp and be off again. I can't tell you how many "babies" were ferried into the yard, requiring one of us to go and save the poor thing. Shoes fared little better, and innumerable rolls of toilet paper met with an untimely end in Grover's desire to chew soft things. He is gone, and his Daddy and I are bereft with grief. Hannah keeps looking for him, and poor Sammi is confused. Godspeed Grovie - Momma loves you Baby G...
