silverfish
After consulting by phone with the specialist at the hospital he was going to be transferred to, they're pretty sure it's a pulmonary embolism. He's lost nearly three-quarters of his lung function, probably for good. He's on blood thinners and bronchodilators and diuretics - and antibiotics in a drip for good measure, and he's still in the oxygen kennel. They've decided between them that no good purpose will be served by stressing him with a journey to a different vet, so he's still at the emergency vet's place - and they're being very kind to him. I took him his favourite yellow duck, and a blanket which still smells of Renie, as well as simply of home, and he's now wearing his usual tag collar - we were in such a rush to get him to the vet last night, he went naked. Hopefully having his familiar things will help to reassure and settle him. He was so pleased to see me, he struggled to his feet and pushed his head into my arm - a most unusual display of affection for Jack. But we had to leave him there, because he's not stable enough to bring home, and almost before we'd shut the kennel door, he'd sunk down again to rest. The next 24-48 hours will tell us if he will make enough of an improvement, or if we must say goodbye, and I'm steeling myself for the worst.
