  1. He lubs you!!! When one of mine pulls this act, and I'm sure they're ok (not hungry, thirsty, doesn't need to potty), they get crated. You may have to listen to whining a few times, so get some soft earplugs before you try it. If partner is taking care of his needs before he's up, can he crate Ramses when he leaves so it becomes part of the routine? Eventually, the dog is likely to crate himself, and you'll just be able to leave the crate door open. For your other question, I use raised feeders because they look more comfortable than bowls on the floor.
  2. Aww, Judy, I'm so sorry. She was the first dog I was Secret Santa for, and I had so much fun shopping for her.
  3. I have Trupanion with a zero dollar per incident deductible and 90% coverage for accident/illness. It doesn't cover the exam fee, but does cover surgery, tests, and medication. Dental isn't covered, but actual extractions might be (haven't had to try!). We pay about $55, per dog, per month. It usually increases by a couple dollars each year -- but Brees's premium went DOWN by about 75 cents this year. Go figure. While I'm very happy with Trupanion, if I were signing up another dog, I might go with Healthy Paws. I could have lower monthly payments with an annual deductible. I would NOT choose a company that has a $5000 annual maximum. One surgery could easily blow through that, and it wouldn't come close to dealing with a diagnosis like osteo.
  4. The kids got their shots today, and the vet wants Joe to have a dental. (My local vet, not the adoption kennel vet.) She tells me she's never had a greyhound have bleeding problems, but I'm totally paranoid! She asked me to send her links about greyhound bleeding and Amicar. I have these: https://ckm.osu.edu/sitetool/sites/greyhoundpublic/documents/Research/Completed/GreyhoundsEACAProspective.pdf https://ckm.osu.edu/sitetool/sites/greyhoundpublic/documents/Research/Completed/AmicarRetrospective.pdf http://cvm.osu.edu/assets/pdf/hospital/bloodBank/wellness/newsletters/2009/ghwpNewsletterSummer2009.pdf http://www.deerhound.org/Health/Claymore_Articles/Claymore_Post-op_bleeding_2011-04.pdf This one from NGAP conflicts with OSU's opinion: http://www.ngap.org/why-greyhounds-bleed-y460.html I'd love to have something in highly technical language that specifically talks about administering Amicar prior to a dental. The vet doesn't think he needs any extractions, so it'd probably be ok not to use it, but with all the horror stories on GT I just want to be safe. Thanks!
  5. NGAP does a fairly good one, and it isn't pricey at all. What I really like is that you can see the dog (behind glass) while they do it. I hate it when vets take my dogs back "into the abyss." Mine have it done every year, and I think it helps prevent needing a full dental. It helps with dog breath and gets everything clean and shiny.
  6. It could easily be the storms; Joe acts weird before they hit, and then shakes and pants during the thunder and lightning. He could also be bored, or like IrkasMom said, missing another hound for company. Before we got Brees, Joe would pace and whine constantly. It was obvious he needed a sister. Then, of course, when we got him a sister, and she drives him crazy! But, she's cute, so she's staying!
  7. Donna, my heart hurts, but not half as much as yours. Your Unruly Boy will be missed by many!
  8. If it was my dog, I'd try one regular Benedryl/generic diphenhydramine with no decongestant. Won't hurt, might help.
  9. It's not OS, cause you've had enough crap to deal with.
  10. I'm so, so sorry! She was gorgeous, just like her brother.
  11. Wonderful! I've been so worried about your girl.
  12. My husband has whacked me in his sleep a few times. I haven't kicked him out of bed (yet).
  13. Izzy is bonkers! I loved how the greys all pooped out at Mary Pat's, and Izzy was still ready to go. Snuggling with Mr. Miami was sooo nice. We miss you guys! Hope you'll be able to join the walk again once things cool down!
  14. Poor, poor Thyme! She's just such a good girl. Is Izzy behaving with her sister now that Thyme is gimpy?
