  1. Wiki is recovering from her wild night.
  2. Wiki has always gotten along with the neighbor dogs through the fence. She mostly just ignores them but occasionally does nice sniffing with them. The house behind me has a German shepherd mix, she’s probably 3 years old. She would occasionally bark at Wiki when Wiki was ignoring her, but they still mostly ignored each other. They added a second German shepherd this fall, she’s probably just about a year old now. Those two play hard with each other, a lot. When either one of them is outside alone they will greet Wiki at the fence nicely. But we’re having an issue when they are both out and all wound up and Wiki is near the fence. It’s happened three times and best as I can tell the original shepherd starts it. Barking, snarling, running the fence line. Once those two start, Wiki joins in. It only lasts less than 30 seconds and I’m able to eventually call Wiki off. But I don’t like it. I worry about Wiki getting hurt or this escalating to happening every time they are out. I’m at a loss about what to do. Any suggestions?
  3. He's so newly retired, everything is a new experience. I'm with Don in not letting him meet dogs on walks just yet. Take some time to get to know him and what he likes and dislikes and how he reacts. I would not consider this aggression or prey drive at this time. My Wiki ignores 95% of other dogs, 4% she wants to say hi to (usually other sighthounds), and the final 1% she growls at. I don't want that growl to escalate because most other dogs don't understand that warning and back off so unless she is clearly happy to meet a dog I just tell them that she's a bit unpredictable. Most people understand, and often as we are talking across the street I can tell Wiki is fine so we might do a quick sniff hello if the other dog is also calm. It's your job to protect your dog. Once he learns that you will, he'll become more relaxed. Until that time you've got to advocate for him and yourself.
  4. It sounds like you've got really good policies in place for kids and the dog! I'd probably call this bite a fluke. The new toy was a high value treasure. But you are right to make sure the kids aren't trying to take anything away from her. And don't worry about playing with her, if she's engaging you it's all good. Luna sounds like a really good girl!
  5. I had a similar kit for my mom when she was on hospice. I think it's a pretty common practice for hospices. If you're not going to pursue any treatment, I'd check to see if there is a palliative care or home euthanasia vet in your area. They seem to be pretty rare but maybe there are more around now. They seem to be more willing to offer this type of thing than a regular vet.
  6. It's kind of a long shot, but I had a end of life/palliative care vet when Lila was reaching the end of her life. She gave me a comfort/emergency kit to have at home with some pre-loaded syringes of a sedative. Just knowing I had it in the house was a comfort. Maybe see if your vet would be willing to give you something similar.
  7. We got more snow than I expected and I can't find the poops that are in the backyard. They are now lost until probably March.
  8. You're a good momma to Milo! But seriously, why are so many greyhounds like this? Are other breeds of dogs this picky? All of my friends just dump dry kibble in their dogs' bowls, no issues. Wiki ate kibble greedily for about 18 months then one day was "nah, what else you got?" To a point of going days without eating more than a couple bites until I found the right combination.
  9. How nice! You'll have to try out the skating rink next time.
  10. He's such a good boy, telling you that he has to go then going right back to bed, but I totally understand not wanting to have to get up every night. I know you can't make him go, but maybe you could encourage him to poop before bed. Make him run a round a bit or make him stay outside a little longer to see if he'll go then.
  11. Lavida knows it's all about that bass.
  12. I guess siblings share everything. Are there eggs present or just antigen positive?
  13. Oh no! I thought Profender was a sure thing. Wiki is status quo, testing antigen positive but no ova present, consistent with larval leak. She is totally asymptomatic and healthy - shiny, sassy, great poops, and she's finally gained enough weight so I don't see all of her bones all of the time.
  14. Those stealthy black dogs! Always sneaking around. I love it! She's hiding out there with all of her treasures.
  15. I was working in the kitchen, she's a velcro dog and doesn't like to be out of my sight. She should be right there. And not in her bed or on the floor. Mild panic, where could she be? Oh, there she is! Anyone else lose a hound hiding in plain sight?
  16. Happy birthday Annie! May I suggest you change the IE to mean I'm Exciting? Congratulations on the new house!
  17. I absolutely love this! I'll try to remember to rub my card to you on Wiki so your old guy gets some real good sniffs.
  18. It goes in the municipal trash. For the not easy to pick up stuff (Wiki has hooks, I have lots of experience with that) I just do the best that I can and weather takes care of any remains.
