  1. I adopted a dog with an amputated toe. Amputated twice, actually. It all happened before I got her so details are sketchy, but it wasn’t healing properly after the first amputation. I can only guess that they didn’t take enough off, the entire toe needs to be removed, even if it was just the first joint that had the problem. She was about a month out from the second surgery when I adopted her and for another few months she would occasionally not use that leg or limp a bit. As she had more healing time that went away and it doesn’t give her any trouble now. If I were you I’d probably have a vet take a look at it to make sure the amputation was done correctly and everything looks like it’s healing up OK.
  2. Poor thing! She needs pillows! Wiki was ending up under my bed until I built her a bumper.
  3. I'd like to be included in the card exchange. Thank you for heading this up!
  4. Buddy is very cute! I'm glad it sounds like something manageable. I thought he had a toy to take outside. Is that like dried rabbit ears? Wiki always wants some gross animal part from the store, but I've never seen rabbit ears.
  5. Sounds good! I hope the Xrays confirm arthritis and Buddy is feeling 100% soon.
  6. That is such good news! I'm so glad the Rawbble was a hit. It does seem to be irresistible. As you're finding, the only problem with it is the volume of it, it's really not practical to feed these big dogs as their only food.
  7. Don and his fancy organic chicken. I usually get the little trays of Cesar pate. They are cheap and available everywhere. The more disgusting I think something is, the more Wiki loves it. Canned Puppy Chow smells absolutely horrible and is made of who knows what, but it's Wiki's favorite.
  8. Yes, my Wiki stopped eating the kibble she ate greedily for about a year. Parmesan cheese then wet dog food worked for a while, but then it didn’t. She seemingly didn’t want anything to do with kibble. And I did call it her eating disorder. I was worried about her, and she did drop some weight, until I realized she did want to eat, but she had very specific ideas of what she wanted. It helped me to think of it like I don’t eat the same thing for every meal every day, so she probably doesn’t want to either. It took a while, but we are at a good place right now where meal times are not stressful for either of us. She gets a bit of freeze dried raw for early breakfast, some kibble (the one she originally refused) with some wet food for brunch, and frozen prepared raw for supper. She absolutely loves that! And a generous helping of biscuits before bed. I know how frustrating and upsetting it can be when they won’t eat. All I can suggest is be open to trying foods outside of your comfort zone to find something he really enjoys.
  9. Awww, that's great to see! And yay for Nanny Janny for transporting lammie and the hogs all the way across the ocean. Lambchomp, as she's known here, is also a favorite.
  10. I'm jealous of those beautiful teeth. Wiki was a crate chewer, still is really, and her teeth are worn down, ugly stumps.
  11. I love this! Good job, both of you!
  12. It sounds like Siggy's coat has already improved a lot since you got him. It might continue to change, or this might be the way he is. As long as his skin is healthy and he's eating good food I think the rest is genetic. Greyhounds seem to come in different coat types. My first girl had super thick, soft plushy fur, almost like a rabbit. But it was not really shiny. Current girl is smooth, slick, and shiny but not at all plush. I call her my sea lion. I have also met greyhounds with a harder, more wiry coat. They are not breed for their coat so there will be variation.
  13. Awww, poor guy! Sounds like he's anxious or worried about something. I can only guess that something in his mouth is still bothering him, especially when he eats. Or the antibiotic is making him feel weird. I know you've been down the road of trying to get a dog to eat, but two new to me options that worked wonders with Wiki the Picky are freeze dried raw kibbles (we like Rawbble) and frozen prepared raw patties (Stella & Chewy currently). I hope you figure it out soon!
  14. Wiki wrote that one. Lila was a very splashy drinker, there were always drops on the cabinets and floor around her dish. But that's nothing compared to Wiki. She gets a mouthful then turns her head or walks away, just letting all that water pour out of her mouth on to the floor.
  15. Yes! This is why I try to walk Wiki a different route everyday. There is an older guy that we see out walking a lot. Every single time he comments about how much Wiki stops to sniff and that I let her. My standard response is that the walking is exercise for her body and the sniffing is exercise for her brain. I think they are equally important. I love Apollo's mailman routine!
  16. Is Doolin still doing well today? No side effects? I hope you're not going to face this same issue with the new girl.
  17. Y'all got me with the slugs. Once I thought Lila had some horrible foot disease, it was a dead moth stuck between her toes. I was the hero at a greyhound walk once when one of the dogs was making odd chewing motions. The owner was worried about a tooth problem or something more serious. I had seen this before and just gave the snoot a little rub to move the stuck biscuit piece - cured!
  18. Good luck Doolin! Let us know how it goes.
