  6. I have been feeding equine products to my dogs for several years. Our vets support this idea and the equine products are cheaper than the canine ones. Our GSD was on Cosequin for a number of years and was active until she was into her 14th year. I used to feed Cosequin powder to both horses and dogs. However, it is not available here in Canada any more -- only from the vet and it is twice the price as in the US. So, after having wonderful success with 'Recovery EQ' with one of my horses, I have switched Nixon on to that. Currently I am only giving the Recovery to Nixon. He is 7 and had over 130 races. I am not giving Ruby (5 and did not race as much) or NIgel ( just turned 4 and was a racing drop-out) any joint products at all. 'Recovery' does come in a 'canine' version, but the manufacturers and my vet have confirmed that the equine version is the same product. Different packaging. More money.

  9. Well... we just don't go on vacation! We are both semi retired.... I work a seasonal summer job 2 minutes from home and DH works 2-3 mostly evening shifts a week. So we're home a lot. We also have 5 horses here at home, along with the usual barn cats and bunnies. Can't remember the last time we both went away at the same time! DH will take 3 or 4 days and go to his "Huntin' Camp' a few times a year. I'll take the odd day or two and visit my aging Mom who lives 2 hours away. DS and family are only 40 minutes away. We have no desire to travel. At all. Ever. We live on 80+ acres in a beautiful rural area ... our own piece of paradise. Why would I want to leave??
  10. I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Daisy. You shared so many wonderful times and the memories of those will help you get through the next few days, weeks and months. Run Free Daisy...
  11. Time is your friend and patience is the key. I am also of the 'do not acknowledge the bad behaviour' club. No talk. No Touch. No eye contact. At all. Believe me....I do know how hard that is to do...... we have multiple dogs for 30 years.
  12. So very sorry that your Rourke had to leave you. Remember all the good times.....
  13. Greyhounds are very sensitive to the heat. Today it's only just over 70 and my guys are laying in front of a fan to keep cool.
  14. Agree...if she's not dehydrated I wouldn't be too worried. She may be getting enough with the extra liquid on her kibble. I'd elevate her bowl very high...put it on a plant stand or a small table... so she does not have to bend over AT ALL to drink. Make sure it is very fresh water.
  15. So sorry for th loss of your Simba Thank you for giving the little guy a loving home and family in his final years.
  16. We are so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Sabrina. Only we know what a small price we pay for the love we have received from our pets. The sadness and loss, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given
  17. I'd try 'Taumeel' before putting her on a NSAID. http://www.traumeel.com/ I also vote for Chirop/Accupuncture... our vet is certified in both. Perhaps there is one in your area as well.
  18. that you get to the bottom of DeeDee's issues quickly.
