  1. I would not 'punish' either of them. Dexter is doing what he has always done and Siri was doing what she had to to protect herself from an 'attack'. Thankfully, there were no really serious issues. I'd either gate them in different rooms or muzzle both when you are not there to supervise. And now ... we need to see some pictures!!!
  2. So very sorry for the loss of your handsome Win. Remember the good times....
  3. Yes...toddler socks are perfect for Greyhound feet. You can put some tape around the top to keep it firmly in place. Nixon wore one a couple of yers ago when he ripped off most of his toenail.
  4. Nixon was not much of a 'walker' when we got him 2+ years ago at age 5. I built him up slowly and he got much better. Ruby arrived here last August and she is a power walker!! She'd make a good jogging dog. Walking the two of them together really helped Nixon enjoy his walks. Thankfully, Nigel is also a power walker, too....he fit right in! We do at least 4km every day.... when the weather is cooler. The past couple of weeks we've been keeping our walks quite short....30 minutes. As others have mentioned, Greyhounds really do feel the heat.
  5. So very sorry for the loss of your handsome Sully. Remember the good times...
  6. I think it sounds like he hasn't been able to adjust to your daughter. Some are definitely more social than others. He may be even more challenged to be social now that he's in a home with a young child. Working with him while also parenting a young child will be very hard. Reading your post my first thought is that you should seriously consider rehoming him. I realize that it may be hard for you to consider, but it sounds like you are both miserable. This poor dog is clearly unhappy and I think that thunder storms are the least of his problems. Babies are passive and really are not a 'threat' to a dogs space until they get mobile. Even at a year old, when they are learning to walk, they are not as 'threatening' as a two year old. Toddlers are very scarry to many many dogs. You may 'think' he likes your daughter, but to me it is clear that he only tolerates her because she feeds him cookies. He is feeling neglected...and rightfully so! Please...do what is right for this poor, sad hound.
  7. Agreed...take her to the vet for a physical exam to rule out any pain issues.
  8. What a sudden and tragic loss.... My heart goes out to you and your family. Nancy are you still on vacation??
  9. I am so very sorry for the sudden an unexpected loss of your Jasmine. Run free Jasmine.....
  10. So very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Ekko. She sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime dog. Remember the good times......
  11. Congrats on your new hound! You've been given lots of helpful hints! We use 'OFF' and 'Get Back', as well as a stern 'Hey!'. 'Wait' or 'Stay' are other words that are important they know ...and understand. Have you considered taking her to some obedience classes? Not only will they help you deal with the naughty behaviour, but classes and training will help strengthen your bond with your new girl.
  12. So sorry for the loss of your Patrick.
  13. Congrats on Teddie!!! Good advice from lots of people! Patricia McConnell's booklet is excellent. Just relax and let Teddie settle...he'll figure it all out. If he wants to be in his crate ... let him. Nixon spent most of his first few days laying in the crate with the door open. Every once in a while he'd come out, look at me sitting in the living room, get a pat, then head back to his crate. Let us know how the next few days go!!
  14. For what it's worth... Several years ago I had a young horse sever her superficial digital flexor tendon just below her hock. The vet could not locate the piece of ligament above the cut, but the piece below it was visible. Surgery was not an option... We kept it clean and tightly wrapped for a long time.... Seems to me it was at least 2 months. Probably more. She did end up with a nasty scar and a 'bump', but was sound. Not sure if this would be an option for your dog.
  15. I know you can make them yourself in a ziplock bag .... water and a little rubbing alcohol and food colouring added. Hope your hounds are ok...
  16. Agreed! Ours.are only muzzled in the house if nobody's going to be home and outside if they're not directly supervised. They do play rough and run fast. It only takes a split second for an accident to happen.
  17. I agree that it does not look like a cut or scratch. The fact that it is perfectly round seems more like a bite of some sort.
  18. I am so sorry for the loss of your pretty girl, Ginger. Remember all the good times...
  19. Like others have mentioned, you can get VERY inexpensive rubber backed carpets at Walmart/Costco. Please...for your dogs mental health...get some!
  20. Ruby & Nigel are huge 'nitters' and 'air snappers' when they're excited. ...mostly walks and meal times. Yes...it is a 'natural' thing for them to do, but I don't encourage it...we have small grandkids and their faces are the same height as snapping Greyhound teeth. Other guests do not appreciate it either. When they get wound up and start 'nitting' on my hands I just turn my back, put my hands on my hips and ignore them. No touch, no talk, no eye contact is thier signal to calm down...and the nitting stops almost immediately. The Grandkids are learning this technique now, too.
  21. I keep a spray bottle filled with water in the fridge and spritz my guys frequently....heads and bellys. Nixon loves it ..... Ruby and Nigel tolerate it We also have several fans going all the time.
