So sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. I too remember when she was just a puppy. Godspeed, Tessa Marie.

You might need to give her a flea bath and bomb the house/apartment (while you and the dog are not in it!). If she still has fleas on Nexgard, it's likely there are a lot of fleas in the environment.

Out Of Ideas - Need Training Advice
Batmom replied to greysmom's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
I agree 100% that ignoring is the best way to address barking/whining for no cause, but this dog is too young to make much of that. At 6 months he needs LOTS of exercise and play and more exercise and more play. He has to grow his muscles, and he has to get his ya-ya's out so he can absorb any training. Guys his age have lots of ya-ya's .- 24 replies

PS You might also get him enrolled in classes a couple nights a week. Ouch, I know, the TIME! and time to practice! But it will pay off, trust me. Puppy obedience, tricks, nosework, swimming lessons … You or your partner should take him to obedience but a trusted friend could take him to other activities/classes.- 24 replies

You answered your own question. He needs a lot more exercise. Day care might indeed be a good option for him! You might also see if any friends have a friendly lab or terrier that you could borrow on non-day care days. Stop the corrections, verbal and other, for barking. Keep patiently working on your "quiet" command, and make sure there's a good reward for obeying that -- a bone to chew, a Kong stuffed with liverwurst, a puzzle toy with food rewards ... Even if he enjoys his reward for only a few minutes and then abandons it, that'll be a GOOD thing.- 24 replies

Fast Growing Mass In Italian Greyhound
Batmom replied to macoduck's topic in Health and Medical discussion
Great news! Our elderly whippet had one like that (didn't look or feel like a lipoma, grew fast, was one anyways). -
Need Help - Osteosarcoma, Uncontrolled Hyperthermia
Batmom replied to Rickiesmom's topic in Health and Medical discussion
How has he been about being at the vet/in hospital? Only reason I ask is, one of mine could shoot up to 105 F in minutes, just from the stress of going to the vet for an exam. She was perfectly healthy, just anxious. If he needs to be in hospital, maybe worth adding an anti-anxiety drug to see if that helps him? Best thoughts. -
Doesn't sound like mange but could be a bacterial infection. I'd run him by the vet for a look. Congratulations on your new pup!

Tick And Flea Medicine For Almost New Greyhound Owner?
Batmom replied to a topic in Health and Medical discussion
Sounds like several Seresto users have answered . I haven't tried it here but as you can see, many folks use it and are happy with it. We use Nexguard. It's been great in our environment but as you note, Seresto or something else might be better when there are a LOT of ticks around. -
Does Anyone Know About Basophils In Bloodwork
Batmom replied to Bogangles's topic in Health and Medical discussion
That all looks pretty good to me. I would x-ray the leg/shoulder but I don't think the basophils are anything to be concerned about -- hopefully some other folks will weigh in on that. -
Not my dog but Secretly (AU 1964) has Hallelujah Lass.

Good suggestion from Tracey. Do you think he needs both the Zofran and the Pepcid? Both at once might suppress his appetite a bit. 'Course you don't want him to get nauseous and throw everything up either. A dog could live for a long time on green tripe, chicken, and bread. You might be able to sneak a few more things in by mixing them into the green tripe, but I wouldn't worry about it much. Hugs and hopes for many more good days.

Does Anyone Know About Basophils In Bloodwork
Batmom replied to Bogangles's topic in Health and Medical discussion
How does her bloodwork compare to prior bloodwork? What was the total white count (WBC) and distribution of other cells (and the normal values for those things)? It might be useful to post the full bloodwork and prior bloodwork. Has she had x-rays of the leg/shoulder? I would get those since she's been limping awhile. All cells in the blood relate to the bone marrow -- that's where they're made. Most commonly, an increase in basophils is associated with parasites or allergy. -
Run far, far away. Widely panned by everyone except the maker. Without knowing anything about allergy testing, just think about what that quote basically said -- would you trust the "quality" of a process where one sample affects results for another, unrelated sample? Um …

Hugs as you remember your boy, and scritchies to your new pup.

Sounds like a neck problem. Hopefully the prednisone will help her and you can taper it off after a time (keep going for a couple weeks after all symptoms disappear). FWIW, one of my pups is always goosey in the groin area. There's never been anything wrong there; evidently she just doesn't like to be poked/palpated in that region. Not saying that's the case with your dog, but might be.

Tick And Flea Medicine For Almost New Greyhound Owner?
Batmom replied to a topic in Health and Medical discussion
The natural stuff -- garlic, etc. -- doesn't work. It's even been studied (by real scientists, not the seller). It doesn't work. Please, out of respect for yourself, your pets, and your fellow dog owners, use Nexguard, Bravecto, or one of the Seresto collars. They work. Here in northern IL, we do year round.
