Update!

Amelia pooped this evening!
For what she’s gone through, and all the medication she is on it was a decent poop.

Woohoo!

Congratulations.  Decent poops are newsworthy!!!!:yay

Night #2 in the books...

The hubby stayed down with the girls again last night.

Amelia slept pretty well for a good part of the night.
She is needing to go out for potty breaks on occasion.

More poop has happened this morning which is good.
Appetite is still very good.

She is pulling us far out in the yard which is pretty amazing. Our yard is pretty hilly and she is bounding up the hills.

The poor hubby seems to have gotten a cold or possibly the flu though. Hoping he gets through that quickly.

I’m so proud of her.

And she seems like her happy go lucky self… wagging her tail, and that doggy smile on her face.

Night #3 done!

The hubby stayed with the girls again.

He said it was the best night so far. She slept a lot.
She has also become efficient with getting up and down, and the yelping is almost completely gone away.

Her underside is a little saggy from the surgery/fluid? But it is minimal and doesn’t seem to be a concern.
Eating and potty breaks are still going great!

She seems very much like her old self :heart

I can’t wait till she is able to do her zoomies again with Carmen!

Mind? We'd be bugging you for them if you weren't posting them! We are all thrilled for you that everything's going so smoothly. And I bet you are feeling glad that you went ahead with the amp despite some (totally understandable) initial uncertainty.

Update:

Today started out a little rough.
Missed an appt (not important) and while I was watching Amelia, she was off… laying a bit lifeless and shaking.
I don’t know what that was… why the hubby came home she jumped up as if nothing had happened.

We did give her Tramadol overnight… she is very anxious overnight so the hubby decided to give her one to get her to sleep… and let him get some sleep.
It’s almost like it never wore off today.

Hoping it was just one of those days that she was off. They can’t all be great days I guess.

I don’t think we will do the Trazadone anymore… seems to really mess with her.

Trazodone or Tramadol? Either way, yeah, that can definitely make her feel off. Sweep didn't do well with gabapentin and Willa had bouts of panting that I suspect were also related to meds. No worries; you'll find the cocktail that works for her. Progress isn't always linear, but you guys are doing great by any measure!

Trazadone. We were told we could give it "as needed".

Hopefully we don't need it anymore. Girl takes enough meds right now.

Such an off day... the hubby broke down and cried this evening... he was holding that in for a while now. I was actually glad he got it out.
I went out with my cousin today. I thought it would help but I just felt angry.

Tomorrow is another day... and probably a better one.

Thanks for listening gang.

You got this.  It's just really hard right now.  Better days are coming!

Ask your surgeon about Codiene Sulfate for a pain medication.  It plays well with other drugs, and helps them relax much better than tramadol or an anti anxiety med like trazadone.  Gabapentin and an nsaid will help too, if she's not already taking them.  Keep an eye on her incision site since she's being more active.

My vet has stopped giving tramadol because studies have shown its doesn't do anything for dogs.

But keep that 2 week mark in your view. Then they're off all meds and become themselves again.

Tomorrow is the 1 week mark. So we made it to that.

That 2 week mark (I think ) is going to be great… follow-up, stitches out, meds done.

She seems a bit more subdued the last 36 hours… we are wondering if she isn’t hurting so much now and is finally able to relax and rest.

We also wanted to know if anyone had to deal with Phantom leg pain?
If so, what did you do for it?
I don’t think she’s experiencing this, but if she did, it would be good to know what to expect and what to do to help.

Today has been better overall for us mentally. I wouldn’t mind another day or 2 off from work, but it is what it is.

Thanks again everyone!

Phantom pains are definitely a thing for some dogs.  Gabapentin seems to help with that.  Usually kick in 3-4 weeks in, I think.

Glad she continues to do well!!
