Aly Is Spending The Night At The Vet

What started off as an emergency vet visit for pain, seemingly in her left front leg, which then went to her right front leg, it turns out to be a herniated disc in her neck.

They took x-rays today and there is significant narrowing at C6-C7. Both front legs appear to be fine, no OSA evidence present. We went to go pick her up at 5pm. When she came out of the kennel, she was still in tons of pain even after pain meds and sedation and started completely freaking out, GSOD, snapping, splaying, just general mayem. It was awful! DH and I were horrified. I busted out crying. I should mention that DH works there, so they know us very well and know we don't like to leave them overnight. We've never left any of them overnight, no matter what. However, when the vet saw the reaction, she suggested that she spend the night, since when in the kennel, she was just resting.

We're hoping that with a day or so of rest and medication, this issue will improve. If not, well, I don't know yet.

I should mention that she has a previously broken back right hock, presumably from her racing days. She has no range of motion in that leg and we carry her down the stairs, since she physically cannot do them :(

The radiologist report also mentions the potenial nerve sheath tumors which cannot be seen on x-ray.

Also worth mentioning is that she's been here for 5 weeks and has only put on 2 lbs and we are doing 3x a day feedings with all the bulky foods, biljac, etc.

Update - they just called and DH is on his way up there to see if she will let him walk her and to bring her dinner.

If a good thoughts or two could be sent her way, we'd appreciate it.

Another update - Aly gobbled up her dinner and she went out for a walk with DH and did a big pee and big poo :) I hope she can come home tomorrow

She came home yesterday and is doing well, so far. We're having a ramp installed this week, since carrying isn't an option...causes too much pain. We have to use a harness and sling to get her down the stairs. She can go up by herself :-)

She's on lot's of meds but is doing as well as can be expected.

Aly is such a good girl
