krissn333
That's kind of where we're at too, Jean...except Fritz is still eating well. He's my happy boy but he's limping and sometimes not using the leg. Tonight he's had some edema in the leg as well. krissn333
...I think it's time to let Fritz go. He is still my super happy boy. But, he isn't using his leg at all and his leg is swollen down to his wrist, the skin underneath is purple. He holds it up and runs in the yard, wags his tail. But he tires very quickly and then he lays down and looks a little bit sad. I have a call in to our vet, she comes in at 1:30. We may be taking him over there after work. As much as I'd like to keep going because he is putting on a happy face, the reality is that he's not going to get better, and he's in pain I just can't believe I'm losing my Bubby-boo...the best dog anyone could ever ask for Quote Kristin in Moline, IL USA with Ozzie (MRL Crusin Clem), Clarice (Clarice McBones), Latte and Sage the IGs, and the kitties: Violet and Rose Lovingly Remembered: Sutra (Fliowa Sutra) 12/02/97-10/12/10, Pinky (Pick Me) 04/20/03-11/19/12, Fritz (Fritz Fire) 02/05/01 - 05/20/13, Ace (Fantastic Ace) 02/05/01 - 07/05/13, and Carrie (Takin the Crumbs) 05/08/99 - 09/04/13. Guest FawnFan
Kristin - I'm very sorry to read your post. I will be thinking of you both and sending lots of positive energy for a quick and peaceful passing for your favorite boy. Sending lots of hugs too! The funny thing is, I was coming here for some reassurance as I think it is time to let G go too. (Ugh.) He just fought me with giving him his pills. He thoroughly chewed each piece of meat. I had to pill him for the gabapentin; not sure he got all of his tramadol. It also looks like he's limping with a back leg now too - he's kind of walking a little tiny bit crooked, or with a weird hop/something to his gait, even though he just ran from one side of the yard to the back door. He's panting more today and he seems to be a little more uncomfortable - unable to find a comfy spot. I know the right thing to do is to let him go. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing it because I feel guilty about and absolutely hate the pill stuffing process. I'll be losing my big protector boy who has the most tender heart and the most wonderful demeanor once he lets you inside his circle. A sad day all around and not exactly what I had planned for today. -Jean

KF_in_Georgia
Jean, the fighting over pills is an important consideration, and it's not one you should feel guilty about. If the only way to make Gunner feel better is to make the both of you miserable with pill-wrestling, I don't think it's worth it. I'd fight over pills that were going to make a dog well, but I refuse to fight Sam over his pills or food. He takes what he's willing to take, and when he becomes unwilling, I'll have to make a decision. Guest FawnFan
Thanks Kathy for your advice. It wasn't what I really wanted to hear yet I knew this to be true. Thanks again. And Kristin - to you too. And I just have to post this - - yesterday when we went for our walk to the baseball field, he stopped to sniff and I looked down and there was a whole patch of four leaf clovers - even was a five leaf clover amongst the bunch. I used to find them all the time - I mean every time I'd look down into a clover patch. Haven't found many recently until yesterday; never noticed this icon until just now. So there's a connection and just had to share. Thanks again.
krissn333
Fritz slipped away to the Rainbow Bridge just after 6pm tonight He went quietly and peacefully. I lost Sutra in 2010 and I STILL haven't been able to write a remembrance post for him, and haven't been able to do it for Pinky either, but, I think in the coming days I will sit down and write one for each of my babies lost to osteo. My little family has shrunk too much to not acknowledge the huge pieces of it that are now missing. Guest FawnFan
Hi Everyone - Gunner earned his wings this evening and passed peacefully around 5:10 here at home. It has been a sad day today - really a sad nine weeks. I thought I had cried everything out yet doesn't seem to be the case. It was sad to see my husband carry him out to the Vet's car knowing he would never ever be coming back to me, bouncing in and all excited only as Gunney could. Sad. Just sad right now. Thank you everyone who was thinking of us today. I really appreciate all of the support here. You all are amazing! Really just simply amazing with your kindness, acceptance and freely offering help and guidance. I'm thankful and grateful you were all here to help me through this. Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough. And I pray they find a cure or an amazing treatment or something that helps to seriously disable this disease in these sweet creature's bodies and I hope they find it soon. I don't want anyone else to go through this process. And Kristin, I'm really sorry about Fritz leaving too. This cancer just sucks!
