Lady Bug

She's been gone 10 months. :brokenheart Today, LadyBug would be 12. Her littermate, Zeke-aroni, will share his birthday celebration later in C&F. But I wanted to share with you a LadyBug story that has warmed my heart and reminded me of so much for which I am thankful. Thanks for looking.

An article in the New York Times about "The Death of a Farm" caught my eye Tuttles. Founded in 1632, Tuttle's Farm near Dover, NH, was a family-owned and operated farmstand and more. Facing ever-growing economic challenges the current owners, who are direct descendants of the original settler John Tuttle, had made the agonizing decision to close the farm. I forwarded the story to my friend in Maine (hereinafter referred to as MFrIM) simply because she lives in Maine (where, in relation to Tuttle's, I had no clue) and I thought she'd be interested. What follows is something that just couldn't be made up.

MFrIM and her family had been visiting Tuttle's for years! Every Sunday morning, she and her family, including three of their greyhounds, would head to Tuttle's to shop, have breakfast, and get the dogs out for an airing. Through the years, the names of the dogs changed but it was always three greyhounds who went for a ride to Tuttle's … tucked into the back of the Jeep, content to nap until they arrived.

At some point, MFrIM declared that Tuttle's was waving a ladybug flag. She was so excited to see it and I to hear it, as my special little greyhound, LadyBug, had encountered health problems that kept us on a roller coaster for some time. The ladybug flag was an unexpected, warm connection between MFrIM, LadyBug, Tuttle's Farm, and me. Our LadyBug.

My LadyBug died in January, 2011. Tuttle's Farm ultimately would not survive the year either, closing their doors at the end of October. When we first learned about Tuttles' closing, the thought MFrIM and I both had was What Would Happen to the Ladybug Flag? MFrIM stated her mission to investigate and I would receive reports that one Tuttle was checking with another about what to do with the flag. Until this …

I knew how deeply special my LadyBug had become to MFrIM and Lucy Tuttle. What I didn't know was that MFrIM and Lucy had hatched a plan to send the ladybug flag here to me, at Camp Greyhound, where LadyBug had lived her most contented years of her life. When the flag arrived, the feelings that washed over me as I realized what it was I was holding in my hands brought me to tears. The flag from Tuttle's Farm is now at Camp Greyhound. The Official Lady Bug Flag. Every morning I see her waving proudly and with love, watching over those she loved and welcoming visitors with a smile.

As I said earlier, you just couldn't make this up. Things fall the way they are meant to.

The irony of the last photo won't be lost on those who know that, without question, Seamus was guided to me by a very special Angel. :angelwings

There was only one place the LadyBug Flag should fly and that was at Camp Greyhound. It has warmed my heart to see the photos of her flag flying so beautifully in memory of LadyBug, our special little girl. My pleasure, my friend, to bring it home to you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZEKE-ARONI AND LADYBUG!

Aww Happy Birthday, sweetheart!

Did you know that Lady bug shares the same birthday as my Mom? I had no idea!

Really?! Happy birthday to your mom!!

LadyBug loved her jammies, I called them her "housecoat" and during her illness she wore them 24/7. :heart
