Average Cost Of Dental...

We took the boys, Magic and Charlie, to the vet today! Both are happy, healthy hounds. We had the vet look at Magic's grill because he clearly needs at least a cleaning. Upon inspection, the vet said there could possibly be the need for an extraction or two. So, we asked for a rough quote on it all. He graciously gave us the "high end" and calculated it with the need of 3 extractions.

He was in no way saying that he knew for sure that would be needed. He was upfront and honest that he could get in there, scrape the teeth and them be good as new underneath. He just wanted us to be prepared! Magic has a horrific over bite and even worse breath! He is getting better every day with his brushing but the build up he has is just gross :) and his gums bleed a lot.

Anyhow, back to the original question.....and i am aware this will vary greatly on location but what do you guys pay on average for a full out dental and what not :-)

LOL Well good luck tomorrow!

Thanks, Wonder!

Our quote was for just over $600 with 3 extractions, a cleaning/polishing, IV, Pain Killers an antibiotics, etc. Hoping it won't be that much! But it's always nice to be prepared.

Stormy 8yr old with advanced peridontal disease had cleaning last month 175.00. No extractions/ Had been 2 yrs for last dental. No blood work required because he just had ER surgery 3 weeks prior for a dog fight. I do brush 3-4 times a week

I pay more than that for George's annual check up!!!

A simple dental here with no extractions is at least $400. I had a cat who needed a bunch of teeth out, and it was over $700.

I just realized I didn't get charged $80 for blood work that my regular vet charges. I know they did blood work since I asked for a copy for my records.

Part of my job is to work up estimates for dentals. Including bloodwork, anesthesia, dental, xrays, extractions, pain meds....

best guess $700 - $900. Depends on how long it takes, which teeth need to come out & how long it takes to get them out.

Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog.

Dental here (midsized midwest city) with fluids, full monitoring, Propofol for induction is @ $160-170 not including bloodwork or extractions. If I haven't had "the whole banana" (CBC & chemistry panel) for awhile, I'll get one ($75-$85); if I've had that recently I might do a smaller panel ($35-$50). I don't know what my vet charges for extractions as we've never had any, thus no need for pain meds or antibiotics either.

At Polly's last visit, the vet confirmed what I knew, that she needs a dental. Her teeth are bad. Our wonderful vet has always been on the low end of just about everything, and I asked if she could write me up an estimate. It was about $330, including the pre-surgical bloodwork. They do not charge by the extraction---it will be the same if she needs a bunch of extractions or no extractions. But the vet was certain that she would need quite a few removed. We had her on antibiotics but had to stop because they upset her stomach. I've been putting off doing this, and I really need to make an appointment. I always worry so much about this stuff, but I know the mouth has got to be worse than the dental.

We love our vet. She is very Grey savvy, having had several of her own. She amputated her own dog's leg when she was diagnosed with osteo. This is the vet who charged us $200 for Winnie's amputation!

I think $500ish--looking it up would be scary. That doesn't include pre-op tests because I pay for those with the physical.

$250 here, with no extractions. I can't remember how much the bloodwork is though. February is dental health month and my vet gives a 20% off discount. NGAP does cleanings for around discounted price also.

My vet cuts me a break since I have so many, have been a long-term client and he is retiring. Zoe's dental was 228.00, plus 115.00 for pre-op blood work, and about 50.00 for antibiotics and pain meds. She needed 4 extractions, but he threw that in as a Christmas gift to me, bless his heart. Otherwise, it is 22.00 - 80.00 per tooth, depending on the tooth and level of difficulty in removing them - roots, etc.

I've only had to do two dentals for my three boys over the years. Avalanche has never had one in the 8.5 years he's lived with me. I brush every night and he gets periodic chews. I've had several occasions where my vet has dragged people in to look at his teeth because he can't believe a 12 year old greyhound would have such healthy teeth. HOWEVER, I know I'm lucky with him. I had his littermate who lost 18 teeth on his first dental. It was $1,300. Then my new boys fell and broke a bottom canine. That extraction along with another molar, full set of x-rays, etc ran about $1,000. I'm in Boston so prices are likely higher than other parts of the country.
