We had to let Doc McCoy go last Thursday. He had a tumor in his chest and it was inoperable. He would have turned seven years old yesterday.

We adopted him last October after he waited in the kennel for two years. The kennel staff could not understand why no one wanted to adopt him. He was sweet, calm and small for a male greyhound. I went to the kennel several times to visit with him and each time I fell a little more in love with him. I think it was his eyes. He had the most beautiful eyes and they held so much emotion.

McCoy was the perfect addition to our pack. He learned all the house rules, never caused a problem and got along with the other dogs. He enjoyed going on walks and being able to run around the backyard. It took him a while to understand about sleeping on the big dog beds but once he figured it out he never went back to his crate.

He was our own personal greeter and not just when you would come home from work. He would greet you in the morning while you are getting out of bed and he would greet you again when you came out of the bathroom. Every time he came in from outside he would greet us. He never got tired of saying hi. He also never got tired of following my DH around the house and yard. When DH had to leave McCoy would cry. He was happiest when we were all together. He would sit on his bed and look at us with his big beautiful eyes. He was a dog with simple needs. All he needed was a home and a family to love. We miss him so much and our home is not the same without him.

I wanted to thank my friends that spent countless hours listening and trying to help me figure out what was wrong and thinking up new things for McCoy to eat.

I also want to thank Sweetdogs (mom to Conor) for all her help and support.

I remember reading your post about Doc's homecoming. I am sorry that his time with you was so short. Thank you for letting that sweet boy know what it was like to have a forever family of his own, a family who will always remember him. We are so sorry for your loss. :(

Rose, I'm still shattered by this news. I had hoped McCoy & Conor could meet up one day. They look SO much alike & they were still youngsters. I thought we had time. sad.gif But I know he was loved & so well cared for & I know he delighted in his forever home. I also know he'll be in your hearts forever as he will be in mine. grouphug.gif

I am very sorry for your loss of McCoy. I remember when you adopted him and it is very sad he only got these past months to enjoy his forever home. I am sure he loved them even if they were short and that is what he will always remember. He left far far too soon.
