Guest Tes623
After a courageous 6 month battle with a painful case of osteo in her shoulder, it was finally time to help Tawnie across the Bridge. She hung on bravely for a while, even if for her last month she wouldn't eat real food but lived solely on treats and peanut butter and crackers which she eagerly gobbled up. But the pain finally became more for her than we could manage with the meds. She had been slightly limping since before Christmas and was diagnosed in January, coincidentally the day after we put Scarlet down, when she went in for her yearly exams. Tawnie came to us in Feb. of 2004 when one morning I got an urgent call from Helen needing an emergency foster home for a girl that had been returned to GEM for a second time. I remember the uncertainty of what kind of trouble I'd be bring home since this dog had been returned not just once but twice! But I picked her up and soon discovered, as is so often the case with returns, it was through no fault of Tawnie's that she got bounced, just other circumstances with the families that had nothing to do with her. Tawnie was actually one of the best behaved and trained dogs we ever had. She was such a great dog to have around that we made her a promise that she would never again have to find a new home, which was so unfair to her, and we adopted her to ensure she would have a permanent, loving home until her end, like she deserved. Like many greys, her two favorite things in life were getting constant attention from us and a steady stream of treats. She gave one of the best eargasm grunts you will ever hear as she just loved having her ears done. As long as you were petting or scratching her, she would never walk away, and she was not shy about pushing her nose into wherever was needed to get your attention. While some greys like to run laps in the yard when excited, Tawnie had this special spinning move she did where she flipped herself around in tight circles, almost violently sometimes, when she was extremely excited. She also developed a daily routine of singing loudly and dancing around for her special after dinner treat once she came in from the yard. Tawnie will be greatly missed by us along with Scarlet and Sweet William, as this now makes all three of our original greys gone in a 6 month span. We're now down to Sooner from our original 4-pack. Knowing this was coming and not wanting Sooner to suddenly be an only dog (although I'm not so sure he would mind that) a couple months ago, we fostered and then adopted a boy named Luigi from the GALT group here in Texas. Somehow in all the time it was taking to play nurse to Tawnie, I don't think we posted to our GEM friends about him, but he is so far getting along just fine with us. He seems to be a perfect mix of William's stunning sleek black beauty and sweet personality, but also seems to have Scarlet's playful and mischievous side. Since they say things come in threes, hopefully this will be it for us for a while. Unlike some things, this does not get easier each time you go through it. Burpdog
She sounds special and her doing the circles reminded me of my Scooby--they can do their spins at the bridge together (maybe start a contest!).
