pabozem
Poor GiGi. She either got into something in the yard or was bit by something. We made a quick trip to the vet and she got shots of benadryl, azium and ampicillin, and she has prednison (20 mg) and benadryl (50 mg) to take starting tomorrow. I was telling a friend about the benedryl and she thought the dosage was way too high for a greyhound. Does anyone have any experience with your greys taking benedryl? This is what she normally looks like. Batmom
OMG! Poor sniglet! No, benadryl is usually dosed at 1 mg/lb 1-2 times per day. It might make her snoozy (but might not) so I'd watch her on any steps you may have. Batmom
It didn't take much Benadryl to make Batman a little wobbly but I've not had another dog with that issue. I think Zema could've sucked up the whole box and still have been bouncing off the furniture. Guest eaglflyt
Oh my, bless her little heart! Ady Bea has needed Benadryl a couple of times and we give her 50 mg. at a time (usually lasts about 6 hrs, or so). She seems to be just the same when she takes it ... neither sleepy or hyper ... just her normal self. I hope she feels better quickly and that her swelling goes away soon. Forgot to add that Ady Bea weighs about 60 - 63 lbs. Edited May 12, 2011 by eaglflyt

Anne
Poor baby, hope she's feeling better real soon! Benedryl, two of my dogs get 100mgs up to 3 times a day for SA, it's only given when I have to leave, and sometimes I have to go more than once a day. Vet is aware of this dose. With dogs, just like humans, benedryl affects some dogs more so than others, AND they do become accustomed to the dosage fairly quickly. My two don't really show the effect of 100mgs and never did, it doesn't knock them out at all. BUT it calms them and we avoid the SA side effects that way.
