One of our new girls Dazie is in surgery now for what they think is stump pyometra. They are also worried about peritonitis. She was spayed 2 weeks ago. Please pray for her. Thank you

Wow, I'd not even heard of stump pyometra before. Sorry to learn of it this way. Sending strong wishes that the surgery goes smoothly and clears the infection before peritonitis sets in. Good thoughts on full & swift recovery for your girl. :goodluck

She is out of surgery now. It was a big stump pyometra as they suspected. She did also have the peritonitis but he said that they flushed her abdomen really well and he doesn't feel like he needs to leave it open for future flushing. They are sending a culture to the lab to see if anything important is noted about the infection. They removed her cervix and a sac from around her intestines as well. He expects her recovery will be difficult. She also has hook worms which we are battling as well. She is coming out of the anestesia now and we just have to wait and see how she does. We are planning to leave her at the vet's office through the weekend so she has the best chance of recovery. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers, please keep them coming as she is not out of the woods yet.

We went to see Dazie this afternoon. She looked ok. They said she came out of the anestesia pretty quickly which made me feel better. The vet tech who we talked with is spoiling her as much as she can. She has given her extra blankets for her 'apartment' as they call it. :) Here are a few pics we took while we were with her. It's hard to see in the pics but she is very underweight, at least 10 pounds which is so much for her... My poor girl... Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers, she sure needs them. Will keep this updated as things progress...

I went to visit Dazie again today. As the vet described it, she was much more spry today. She kept wandering about the little room we were in and wanting to investigate every little noise she heard outside the room. She didn't even want to lay down. They said she did not vomit last night which is excellent. :) Also, she ate both last night and this morning. She had not had any bowel movements by the time I got there and that is the next big step. She had such bloody, liquid diarreah before I took her in that I want to make sure that her bowel movements are back to normal before we bring her home. They want to keep her until at least Monday so they can continue with the injectible antibiotics so we can be sure she gets enough of the good stuff. Just as an FYI the vet indicated that Stump Pyometra is very rare, he would estimate only 1 in 3000 dogs will develop it, so if you have any pups going in for spay don't worry too much. He did say that it is best to wait a minimum of 2 weeks post heat cycle to have them spayed, the longer you wait the better I guess. Dazie was spayed roughly 3 weeks post heat cycle but sometimes these things just develop. Also, just as a side note, this poor girl lost 25 teeth when she had her spay & dental done! :ohno She's been such a good girl through all of the pain and discomfort.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It looks like the power of GT is working for my girl. I've included some pictures from my visit today. I'll certainly update as we get any new information or if she comes home.
