MisserGil
Toby.. My big goofy blue boy has not been feeling his best the last few days.. He has had a very low grade fever, not eating much and very lithargic.. Our vet came over on Thurs morning and drew blood and we got the results back.. WOW.. things are all over the place.. Right now he is on a good dose of Antibiotics and we will see how that goes... The blood work does show and infection but at this time we are uncertain exactly what/where its located.. He is getting lots of special loving... Special food.. etc.. The antibiotics are helping some but it does take time.. She will be calling me on Monday and seeing about coming over to do a recheck.. She is Grey Savvy so I know we are in good hands, its just sometimes these things can be so hard to diagnose.. I will keep you posted.. We just want to see our pony boy back.. Thanks... MisserGil
He is really pissing me off with this not eating.. I bought a pack of stewbeef today at the store and this afternoon he ate a few pieces.. Tonight he wouldn't touch it.. We are feeding very small meals as he will only eat a little at a time.. If he keeps messing with me, he will be given some IV Fluids... Lets just get that appetite back and we will be happy.. Guest houndlover
Sending lots of good thoughts for Toby. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. Do you think the antibiotics could be upsetting Toby's stomach? One of my greys was sick recently and wouldn't eat (and he ALWAYS eats). I found that adding turkey or chicken baby food to his kibble along with rx canned food really helped a lot.

silverfish
Sorry to hear Toby isn't doing well. Hopefully the antibiotics will get to work very soon. We find that bio active yogurt helps with the upset gut you often get with antibiotics, but sick people and animals often don't eat for a few days until they start to feel better. I wouldn't worry about a few days missed meals, as long as he's improving - and still drinking. Warm shredded chicken in broth usually goes down very well - often better than raw. Occasionally a dog's sense of smell is off when they're ill, and if they can't smell it, they won't eat it. Fiona3
Sorry to see that Toby is ill. We have many times had to give Pepcid to our greys on antibiotics, especially if they are strong medications. 10 mg. about 20 min. before a meal seems to coat the stomach and help with appetite. Or perhaps your vet could suggest something. The chicken broth & shredded chicken I have also used as well as shredded chicken in macaroni. If Toby is feeling poorly he may just want small amounts of mild food. Sending good thoughts for your boy....
