Oh, Karen--I hope that Monty heals quickly and with as little pain as possible (now that he is on a good dose of the tramadol!). You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

the pathology report came back: Monty has high grade lymphosarcoma. They do not stage it without an oncologist examining him , checking his nodes, etc. We will make the appointment at Penn asap. I am trying to compose myself as Sam comes home in a minute and tomorrow is his birthday.

The onco at Penn will stage it and then go over treatment and prognosis. My vet is sending the path report to OSU and will ask the onco at Penn to consult with OSU Edited by greytmonty

Oh, God, Karen, that sucks.

I'm posting the link for Marvista Vet's page on lymphosarcoma; some of the info there is scary, but we got so much from their site when trying to educate ourselves about Nelly's kidney disease:

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/canine_lymphoma.html

I saw this, too:

It is the most common form of cancer in both humans and small animals but, fortunately, is also one of the most responsive to treatment.

Thank you. I think the stuff we have read is pretty pessimistic. Without treatment, 60 days. With treatment, up to one year.

We will talk with the oncologist, but our feeling is just because one CAN do a treatment doesn't mean one SHOULD. We will have to evaluate quality of life issues.
