I am so sorry it has creeped its way back so soon. :(:grouphug I have a friend that went through this with her sheltie. She did chemo for a few months and all seemed ok but then she started to not respond to chemo and the swelling in her throat started to limit her breathing. She let her go only a few months after being diagnosed (she was 6 years old). Such a devastating disease. :( I am so sorry you both are having to go through this. :grouphug :grouphug

I am really sorry to hear this, she is so young. I hope there is something that can be done to help her. Perhaps I am wishing on a prayer, so be it. Hug Penny for me.

My Cosmo went in and out of remission several times. When her nodes would enlarge again, the vet would just do another round of chemo. We did five rounds of a modified Wisconsin protocol the first year (five treatments each time). After we had maxxed out the adrio (which is cardiotoxic), we went to the oncologist at Angel Memorial in Boston and tried a couple of salvage protocols. We finally settled on CCNU, which worked wonders. She had three treatments of that and her nodes never enlarged again. We lost her 2 1/2 years after diagnosis, at the age of 14 1/2 when she could no longer walk (she also had degenerative myelopathy--doggie MS).

Lymphoma is a huge roller coaster of a diagnosis, but it can be controlled, if not cured.

We are thinking of you and Penny,

Penny update

=========

We took Penny to the e-vet at about 1am this morning. I had gotten up

and checked on her and she just seemed to be "out of it". Not responding

to me, though she was awake. The small area of bruising near her arm pit

yesterday evening had tripled in size in less than 8 hours. So I just said we

have to take her, to make sure she's not in any pain. The e-vet said she was

dehydrated (despite drinking gallons of water every day), so she got some

IV fluids. Her blood work came back substantially normal, just one low value

that really wasn't significant. They wanted to keep her, but we wanted to

bring her home. So we did.

I went to work today for a little while and came home to find her jumping

around like her usual silly self. I let her and Tornado out to pee and they

both raced around the yard- she growls this funny growl, trying to be so

fierce! So I'd say she's 95% herself. I can just look in her eyes and see

she's not feeling totally great.

So tomorrow we'll figure out what our options are. Our regular vet did

mention the CCNU, but the Oncologist that has been working with her

said there's only a 3% success rate with that. There's also a study she

could get in if she is B-Cell Lymphoma, but we haven't had her typed,

due to the cost. So we don't know if it's B or T.

Ultimately, I just don't want her to experience ANY more pain.
