  1. Many prayers for both hounds....
  2. Where are you. Connecticut greyhound adoption has a ten year old. ETA...just saw that you were in Maryland.....
  3. My foster has been here about thirty hours and he hasn't pooped. I am trying not to stress as Chris said. He goes out and pees, but doesn't want to poop. It will happen..... Enjoy your first greyhound....those shy ones often turn out to be the ones who bond the most....
  4. Your Jack was so beautiful....may your memories bring you peace!
  5. Poor boy. I clean the horses' sheaths routinely....but have never cleaned the hounds!
  6. Extractions or otherwise, depending on how low his platelets are there is a risk as they bleed a bit during dentals. JJ had a small lump removal cancelled for low platelets...which a hand count turned out to determine as normal....and that was nowhere near as bloody as a mouth.
  7. As much as I love sleeping with my hounds, some are space aggressive in their sleep....I would hate to see her do anything that she doesn't really mean to do. JJ used to do it a bit, but seems to have moved past it. I could crawl on Dustin and he wouldn't care. EZ on.y used tour owl if someone got near his paws, but that went away. My Jack on the other hand had a true sleep disorder and would all out attack from a deep sleep whether being touched or not. Yours sounds like my JJ...it may not be serious, but be careful about taking the chance.
  8. Kerry...for what it is worth, medicine or not....cost of drugs not even considered, I would not take the chance. Bad teeth that have to wait until you can get funds for extractions will not kill him, but a platelet issue could. Worse case, if one of those teeth gets infected in the meantime, a round of clyndamiacin does wonders and it is not hugely expensive. EZs teeth need to all come out....half were removed five years ago...but he is too old and has a major heart murmur. We treat as needed. I realize he is older than Sagan so you may not want to ride those teeth out for a lifetime, but the risks seem too high. Of course, you know my history....so my fears may be a bit extreme....but it just my perspective.
  9. I agree that the heat takes the playfulness out of my boys.... Also, she may be feeling very settled. Not following you may be a sign of confidence. They have a way of looking sad even when they are not.....Don't let it make you feel bad!
  10. What a lovely tribute to a beautiful lady.
  11. I am so sorry. Treasure was just beautiful.....
  12. This particular one specializes in it, but she wasn't in and the other did the reading. They did send it off also for kidney panel....not sure if that lab will do a count as well.
  13. These were the hand counted slides at the vet. Tomorrow the vet who counted before will look At a slide. I was dubious about the range.
  14. Platelet recheck today....was 107,000 five weeks ago. Today's hand count showed a range of 65 to 85 k. I am not sure why the range this time, but I am concerned about the drop. The vet who counted it is not the vet who has been working with this. That doc will call me tomorrow....but to ossified you put there, would this fluctuation dog concern? This all started from a machine count in the 40's and two days later a hand count up at 107... And now this.
