  1. Hi All, When JJ woke up from his nap, his normal nose drip had a slight bloody tint. It was still more watery than blood, and it was just one drop. With the horses, we usually see this after a big sneeze, and don't worry too much. JJ has had low platelets before, but his gums look fine and it was only one drop. I have had the wood stove burning in the house for three days straight - and I can smell that wood burning smell throughout the house - so I'm sure, despite having the steam pot on top, the house is a bit dry. Do you all think that it could be from the dryness? Dustin has had a few sleepers in his eyes - and I've attributed that to the dryness as well.

I am just reading this now, Deb. What a beautiful tribute to a special boy..... I believe that all the beings in our lives cross our paths for a reason......and each of those is a gift we take with us as we grow in life.
  3. Hmmmm.....She is very young....so maybe some type of juvenile behavior. As long as she isn't tense or growling....sometimes some of them don't like to be touched while sleeping....it is possible it is a bit of a nervous reaction as they are not used to being touched when they are resting. Does she seem settled? Does she interact with you at the same time....eye contact? Or is she asleep (even if her eyes are open, she can be asleep - it depends if she is really looking at you.) Sorry if this sounds rambling.....just thinking outloud.

Miss Pat....what a lovely tribute. My heart is with you.....Doubles was such a special hound - and was so blessed to have you.....
  5. So sorry Ducky. God bless you for giving her a year and a half of nothing but love, safety, and security.....
  6. Miss Ducky....I am so sorry for your loss..... Thank you for remember our EZ here.....
  7. Our beautiful EZ made his final journey last Tuesday. He was our first greyhound - and the reason that we have since had many more in our lives. From the day we got brought him into our lives, he was the perfect dog.... He never did anything but try to please and be a loyal companion. He was my husband's hound. Until this past March, when Gerritt transferred - and the commute would have been too hard on him, EZ travelled back and forth to Upstate New York where Gerritt was stationed. They lived together as two "dudes" and adored each other. That was why when EZ started declining, I prayed he could hang on for his daddy to get home....and he fought valiantly and was successful in seeing his daddy again. On Gerritt's last day home, we had the vet come. EZ passed in our room, in his daddy's arms with his three brothers around him. We thank EZ for his beauty....both inner and outer.
  8. I think it varies hound to hound. Our oldest boy EZ spent years in upstate New York with his daddy. He wore a coat for walks in extreme cold....and sometimes in "moderate" cold..i.e. 25 degrees...but it was clear it didn't bother him. He never was willing to wear boots....Gerritt tried a few times when there was ice and sleet on the ground....and he was fine. My Dustin, on the other hand, has trouble with the cold. We go in the yard for quick pee an poo without a coat, but not for longer walks once it is cold.
  9. I wouldn't induce vomiting for exactly the reason you mentioned. The blood may well be from where they chewed at it - JJ has done that chewing a variety of items. I was unsure last week if JJ had eaten ceramic slivers from a bowl that broke. The vet for EZ happened to be at the house and I asked her....she said to watch closely for any dark blood in the stool. She said if a saw a little bright red with otherwise normal poop, I shouldn't worry unless it was excessive - but if the blood was darker than I needed further veterinary care.

They never leave our hearts....and we are better for having known them.
  11. Oh, how heartbreaking that you lost two in such a short span of time and so young.... No matter what, try to take comfort that thanks to you, Lulu had a home and love she would not have otherwise had....and Malcolm had a lifelong friend.
  12. How ironic. I need to get urine tomorrow as well, and wanted the morning urine, but my appointment is not until six at night. I was figuring that he goes from the time I leave for work until I get home without peeing, so even though it's not overnight, it is almost as long holding it, so it should be pretty concentrated. Yes???? Better than gathering in the morning and leaving in the fridge for 12 hours from first pee?
  13. I have no words for how sad I am for you.....and for possum that he didn't have longer to enjoy and revel in the true love of your home.....yet, on the other side of it, I think how blessed he was that he did know true love....even if for too short of a time. And I think he knew that h had found love that first day when he crawled in your bed. God bless.... He really was a joy to get to know...
  14. I had one with major sleep aggression issues and I have be now with "minor" ones. I wouldn't assume it is isolated, as you wouldn't want another incident.....I agree w x pens and baby gates. Unless the hound is awake and interactive, I would keep baby away..... Sounds like you have an awesome hound.....who has a pretty common issue. One thing to remember.....greyhounds aren't like other dogs who at a few weeks old are tossed into a home life and adapt to things going on around them when they sleep. Greys sleep in their kennels....their own space.....so they are startled easily when in a sleep state.
  15. I'm so sorry for your loss. What an adorable picture.....
  16. That is ironic. I have never had a slit before. I did a much shorter walk and tried to keep him on grass so dirt and gravel didn't get in.
