  1. Kim, I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am that you lost Casper. There really no other words to adequately express my condolences. I, along with so many others, have lost a beloved to this horrid disease and feel the pain for each additional one lost. Hugs. Cindy
  2. When my whippet first came home (he was 11 and bouncing again due to separation anxiety and a host of other things), I crated him. He managed to break the ties and push the tray out from underneath him and dug a hole through the carpet. So, being the intellectual giant that I am (not), I put the crate in another room, thinking he would do better in the same room where the others tend to nap. He got the tray out again and bent the bars. So, I gated him into a safe room but within seeing and hearing distance of the others. He cleared the gate. Needless to say, he was free to roam after that. Never had an issue with SA again. It sounds like her free reign might be the ticket! Wishing you much luck and success. I hope your break heals well, too. Keep us posted.
  3. Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am. I have been following this thread and was getting really concerned. Hugs to you. Run free, handsome. Your mom could really use a sign that you are pain free over the bridge.
  4. I have been using the CMO from Greyhound Gang and Brady seems to be more comfortable on a day to day basis. This chronic cold, wet weather has bothered him, so he gets a half dose of Previcox daily, when needed.
  5. Have you heard from your vet yet today? Thinking of your girl.
  6. See if you can get her on Robaxin, a muscle relaxer, to use in conjunction with the gabapentin. That has made a huge difference for my 12.7 YO LS boy. How much gabapentin is she taking and how often? Greys do better if it is every 8 hours. Brady takes 200 mg each time. Gentle scritches to your girl.
  7. Ducky, his blood was not 're checked. His attack happened quickly after he had eaten a lamb neck. Like Poodle, he began to retch in the arched position and I took him in right away. He had to have surfactants and some other type of medication. And I bad to watch him and sure be was drinking . I wish I could remember more but it was about 5 years ago. Please keep us posted on how she does.
  8. When Indy had pancreatitis, his blood test was useless due to all the fat in his bloodstream. However, he did not require an iv for treatment and he fully recovered. Sending good thoughts cor your friend's pup.
  9. Just trying to do my part! I do hope that you are able to achieve success. I also hope this snow will melt and spring will come. Dream big, right?
  10. I don't have any suggestions, but this is a good reason why she should NEVER be adopted by anyone! Look at her! She is an absolute medical mess. Bless you, Jan, for taking on the daunting task of caring for this girl.
  11. I have no knowledge of either disease, but wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you and Gamo and hope that he gets better.
  12. When I started feeding raw, I read a book called Switching to Raw, which you can google for and buy off the internet. She spelled things out pretty clearly about ratios and amounts and gave meal plans, too. She does rotate through a processed mix of veggies that you make yourself. I followed her meals for a year or so until I was comfortable and able to switch things to better suit my hounds. I had an IBS dog and the veggie mix didn't sit well, so I cut it out and haven't looked back. Her book, at least to me, was like raw feeding for dummies or something like that. There are several different models to follow, so you just have to choose what works best for you. I would also worm Ruby, too, just in case she picked something up that didn't show at the vet visit, but that's me. I worm my annually because we attend a playgroup in a public park and you just never know. I feed mostly chicken because it is the cheapest and easiest to find. They also get other meats, red and otherwise, fish and frozen green tripe. I give them a raw egg about once a week, shell and all. In addition to fish oil, they get a chondroitin supplement, but no multi-vitamin or anything like that. If they get too much bone, their stool gets hard and crumbly and is harder to pass. Not enough and they can get loose. Over time, you automatically adjust. I know lots of people who do half and half - one meal kibble and the other raw. You can get dehydrated raw in a specialty pet store. I don't board mine, so it hasn't been an issue. It is a pain, though, when we travel. Three dogs on raw takes up a lot of space! Plus, we stay with others and their dogs, so I have to be careful. Everyone wants what my dogs are having! Good luck!
  13. He is a cutie and they look so comfortable together! How is Boo doing? Has he relaxed any? Less fearful? My scardy pants dog did ended up doing a 180 when I brought another home for him. It has been four years and I still have to keep those two together with whatever I do, lol. Congrats!
  14. I can just imagine the scene! I have had to move furniture - like beds before, while trying to keep the cats away. That get's your day started with a bang! As for the poop, being good luck sounds good to me. I can use all the good luck I can find these days.
  15. Good thoughts coming your way! I would be anxious, too. I hope this can be diagnosed and treated easily.
  16. Mine have gotten birds outside, but have yet to even get off the couch when one gets in the house. They won't even chase the occasional mouse. The cats will go berserk over the bird but ignore the mice, too! I usually throw a towel over the bird to get it outside. Glad your adventure ended well!
  17. She is an absolute doll. Wishing you and Nell all the best.
  18. Glad it's not a break! Zoe dislocated her toe so badly once that when I brought her to the e-vet, he was positive the bone had been shattered. Skin had split and the toe was perpendicular to her foot. He was absolutely stunned that it was in pieces inside. Due to the stitches, that it wouldn't stay in place, and that I didn't know any better at the time, she was splinted for 4-6 weeks with weekly changes and then an additional several weeks of leash walking only. It was a long road but she healed beautifully. Good luck!
  19. Besides the praise after he goes, does he get a treat? Mine will stand on their heads for food. When I am trying to teach them something, they get a special treat only for that specific occasion. Maybe if he realizes that he gets a little bite of something if he goes that he will go faster and more often. Just a thought. Good luck! I know how frustrating this can be. Goose is simply unable to hold it all day and I finally got a dog door. But, obviously, he had full run of the house at that time. I even resorted to using a belly band and just came home to a soaked one, so it certainly wasn't marking!
  20. Sweet Gracie. Thinking of you today, Jan. These anniversaries are so hard.
  21. Where in Maryland do you live and where are you receiving treatment?

    Lucas

There are certain dogs that steal your heart even though you have never met. Lucas is that dog for me. I followed his journey over the years. My heart is broken with you and for you, Deb and John. He found his heaven when he got out of that travel crate. Hugs
  23. The TOTW southwest canyon, or something like that, uses boar as a protein and instead of potatoes, chickpeas are the filler. He did pretty well on that - it was just a difficult flavor for me to find consistently. We did try the 4Health Beef and white potato. He did pretty well with that, too, so I think I am going to mix the two in order to stretch out the TOTW and keep me in a back up food, if needed.
  24. I have gotten some of these supplements from Costco, Puritan's Pride and the Vitamin Shoppe.
