  1. Should I give a couple more days for names?
  2. How about fostering? It helps you decide if you're ready for another and still gives companionship to Lucy.
  3. She was 3 legged lame. I brought her out to Ohio state university vet school (where at that time Dr. Couto practiced) where she spent a day being evaluated by specialist to make sure she could handle amputation at such a late stage of life. They came back that she had arthritis but she was healthy enough for the surgery. If you have the funds, have him checked out. Just keep in mind if he has osteo of the pelvis, amp is not an option.
  4. I agree that there is a strong chance it's osteo. To help with any decision making, I had 2 front leg amps. One was a 12 year old. Two weeks post-op were rough, but then life blossomed for them since their pain was gone. I did question my decision during that 2 week period. But I don't now. If amputation is an option don't negate it simply for his age. Good luck. This is a rough journey. And remember, whatever choice you make is the right choice because you make it out of love.
  5. I think we can do it with 7. I'll wait until Oct 31 to catch anyone else interested.
  6. I know Trudy is not doing Secret Santa this year. But I was wondering if we still want to do it on our own. It would be basic, no buttons indicating shipping, acknowledgement, etc. If enough people respond to this email I'll have you guys PM me your address and number of SS you want. Then I'll ask for a volunteer not participating (because I want to participate) to do the matching and PM the info to the recipient. You would need to have your mailbox empty. And we would still use elves. That's it. No policing to make sure you're honoring your commitment. So let me know if you'd like to do SS like this, this year.
  7. So, it's Sunday...have your new furkids yet?!
  8. I'm so sorry. Dam cancer. I've lost 2 to osteo.
  9. Having had nothing but greyhounds I think all other breeds, especially retrievers and small hounds are FAT. I went out of my way to compliment a person walking a basset for the beautiful condition of his dog. It actually had a waist.
  10. Yeah, I was in Dewey during many of those extreme weather events. Walking in ankle deep mud before the tents blew down. No sand to walk on with high tide. But growing up at the Jersey shore I'm used to it. Thankfully CC got her cast off so I don't have to worry about it getting wet or sandy.
  11. I'm only there Thursday through Sunday and it looks pretty good.
  12. I too am single. I adopted my first when I was working. She did fine. But I always felt she was a bit lonely during the day. A year later I got a second. And a dog door. I've had at least 2 since. Many people are opposed to dog doors. But in 24 years of having greys I've never had any issues with the dog door. If they needed to stay in, I simply locked it.
  13. I had something similar with the eye but no bump. It was an abscessed tooth. The very last tiny tooth on the top.
  14. I'm so so very sorry. Seven is much too young. And so sudden.
  15. Does the firehall have vendors again this year?
  16. Jeannine, I was wondering if you might have been interested in rooming together.
  17. The only way to get a prognosis is to take several blood and urine samples over time to determine how fast the kidneys are deteriorating. I'm in the process of doing that now with my Canidrome survivor. She's only 5 and in renal failure. I feed half commercial kidney kibble and half homemade. Homemade is a box of cooked pasta like elbows or similar amount of cooked rice. About 4-6 cups cooked veggies. And 4 baked chicken thighs. Or a dozen scrambled eggs. CC gets half cup of homemade and half cup of kibble with a splash of water or broth twice a day. Her meds are amlodipene and benazapril. Good luck.
  18. Oh too young. Just too young. He was a very handsome boy. I'm so sorry.
  19. A little more info would help. Is it newly adopted from a kennel environment? Are you in the southern hemisphere where spring is approaching? Is this something new even though you've had the dog for years?
  20. Ok, I just joined. I'm staying at the Gold Leaf. Hoping to see everyone there.
