Hi!

I've posted in other forums already, but only just now stumbled into the welcome boards and thought I should stop in to say hi.

I've been interested in greys for years, but only now am I in an apt building that will let me have one. I'm planning to look at potential dogs with a friend on Saturday and hopefully bring one home with me. I'm just so excited!

I've bought a ton of toys, beds, leash, collar, food, treats... I'm ready. Soooo ready.

Is it Saturday yet?

I've also had the realization that I can knit for my dog! :-D

Welcome from Oklahoma! Where are you located? And Chris thanks for revelry info - I had no idea -- have done revelry for years and duh - never entered my mind - I'll be checking that out today :)

Congratulations! Does the group your working with do same day adoptions, or have you already been approved? I'm only asking because a lot of groups don't adopt out the same day and I wouldn't want you to think they were being standoffish or anything. Either way, this is a step you will not regret!

Uh oh. I'll need to check that out, of course!

I'm not a great knitter. Normally, I just knit scarves as a way to keep my fingers busy during meetings or train rides. But, what else am I going to do with my yarn stash? lol.

Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks guys!

I'm just too excited for words at this point. CAN'T WAIT.

As far as I'm concerned, one of the best traits of greyhounds is the fact that you can dress them up. :hehe O.K., maybe not one of their best traits but it's still fun.

Squeeeeee!!! How is it finally here? I guess I shouldn't question this. I could jinx everything!

There's a new dog up for adoption who looks like a complete sweetheart even more than the others, if that's possible. I hope I can meet her tomorrow!

Thanks! Soon as I figure out how to post pics from my iPad, I'll get right on it.

Anyway, she's black, and I've named her Adrien. Her racing name was Fiesta Sanity. The adoption group said they don't normally recommend renaming a dog, but in this case, it might be good. Lol.

I have two blacks and one blue....but blue is just another shade of black. :-)

Sorry for butchering the english language. I try to keep the mistakes to a minimum.

Yo, Adrien! How you settlin' in? Piece of cake? Nervous? Don't worry -- you'll love this retirement gig. They taking you outside enough? Is the grub good?

Fiesta Sanity? What were they thinking?

Hi Jeter and Milo!

That's what I'd like to know! Thankfully, changing her name was a snap.

She seems happy. We went to the dog park yesterday for the first time, which was fun and exciting! She likes her food. But man, the diarrhea just doesn't stop! Right now, that's my main concern, especially as I do prefer sleeping through the night. :-) that, and the fact that sudden loud noises scare her silly, enough that she tries to escape her collar and run. She's going to have to get used to the city soon! Very soon!

Welcome! Are you right in Boston? I'm sure the madness of marathon weekend didn't help. I might suggest walking with both a harness and collar if she's that skittish. Also maybe wait a while before dog park excursions. She's really new and it's sometimes better to get to know each other a bit before adding in new potentially scary experiences into her routine.

We're on the JP/Roxbury border, actually. The marathon, thankfully, happened without us. :-) we stayed in our neighborhood, which is loud and crazy enough on a regular day!

I think her learning to socialize at the dog park helped her with being afraid. On the way back, she was more interested in her reflection in all the store windows than other things and people! I just made sure there were no small yappy dogs, as they tend to scare her with their barking and/or need to rush under her to sniff her. The people were great and she made lots of human friends just asking for a scratch. She doesn't know much about playing yet, so she was a little unsure of the other dogs, but she did do some running with them. We didn't go yesterday because of the weather and to give her a break from too much crazy stimulation, but we might go again today. If no one's there we'll work on some obedience training for awhile.

Yes, diarhea/loose poop comes with the new hound (you might not have noticed it in the adoption contract, probably something like: Dog comes with collar, leash, loose poop....). It's normal right now, with all the changes. Keep with whatever food they had her on for at least a month or two before trying anything new.

If you're going to the dog park in/near Roxbury, I think I know the one you mean, there are a lot of nice people there. Of course, it varies by the day, week, hour, etc.

Yes, we've been to the one at the mspca.

Lol... Nope. I must have missed that part of the contract. Stupid me for not reading the fine print! Actually, I had a feeling we'd have some issues from all the research I'd done ahead of time, I just didn't expect it to be this bad. Aside from that, and the big, scary city, she's settling in great. I think it helps that my apartment is very well soundproofed, so it's a nice sanctuary for her away from everything. That said, we can't stay inside forever!

Out we go!

A tablespoon or two of pumpkin in her kibble might help to firm her up. And a martingale harness from Wiggles, Wags, and Whiskers might also help for walks . . .to help her feel calmer and also give you a bit more control :)
