Please Meet Our New Dog--Belle's Sweetpea

Since Jack died last November, I have been kicking around the idea of another dog. We weren't going to, but after we got Silas--the brat cat--I really started missing having a dog. About two or three weeks ago, I decided to do it. One reason was that this dark brindle female, only 2.5 years old, showed up on our adoption group's website. Anyone who remembers my other dogs (Rascal, Ruby, Buddy, and Jack) knows that Rascal and Ruby were my dark brindle littermate-sisters. So of course I have a soft spot for dark brindle girls. I didn't know what my chances might be of getting this particular dog, but I submitted the application. She was brought from the track on August 18, having suffered a broken back leg. I was also told, during the application process, that they were having trouble getting females this summer. I kind of wanted a female from the size aspect--when Jack got sick I could NOT lift him into the car myself. Plus, I really have been missing my girls.

Anyway, when they took her in for her spay, they cat-tested her, and she passed. :) Now it was just a matter of setting up a visit. We went to see her at her foster home this past Sunday, and wow. What a sweetheart. They said that she 'lives up to her name', and they weren't kidding. We spent about an hour visiting, and later that day decided we wanted her. Since yesterday was a holiday, we thought it would be perfect--we'd all be home with her. Her foster mom and the powers-that-be at the group were fine with us picking her up yesterday, and she has been a dream.

She largely ignores the cat, and tends to go the other way if he hisses at her (good girl!). She did get a good sniff of him this morning when he was doing his morning chipmunk-watching at the patio door. :lol He wasn't crazy about it, but he didn't swat her or hiss--just walked away. Hopefully they will become good friends!

She had visitors yesterday--my friend came to see her and said she was 'maybe the prettiest greyhound I've ever seen'. :) Then my in-laws came to see her.

She slept in our bedroom on the dog bed all night, and never made a peep till we got up around 6:15. She gobbles her food--:yay--gotta love an enthusiastic eater!

We haven't settled on a name yet....she is alternately Sweetpea and Phoebe (trying out that name, partly because it rhymes with Sweetpea!)...but we'll figure it out. :)

Oh--I know :rules ....you probably want some photos. She's a little hard to photograph, since she's very dark, and in motion much of the time. But I did get a few nice ones.

Silas came out to see what the heck that loud gobbling sound was! She cleared that bowl in about a minute!

She does settle occasionally:

I saw her on the website last week and thought she was gorgeous. Are you keeping the name?

Not sure yet....still deciding. It took me MONTHS to decide to adopt again, I sure hope I can pick a name quicker than that! :lol
