You know, when we adopt a pup we never really know what's in store for us. We all hope that we'll have many years together, but it doesn't always turn out that way. All you can really do is enjoy every day you have with them, and as you have with Murphy, love them like crazy. I'm glad that you and Murphy found each other :grouphug

I'm sorry you got this news. We opted for prednisone and not chemo when Inu was diagnosed with lymphoma. It works fast and he felt great for a bit longer.

I am so sorry. It is just terribly unfair that you will have to lose him so soon after adopting him.

Of course, all Murphy cares about is that he is with you now, where he belongs. He will be happy for the rest of his life, and that is all any of us can ask for.

As long as Murphy still greets us at the door, loves his tennis balls (which he can catch!) and other toys, and enjoys affection we'll be together. Hopefully his drug regime will keep him pain and discomfort free for a while, and he's loving the actual meat in his meals. It absolutely kills me, but when the time comes I've checked out a very well regarded company that handles euthansia in the home.

In the meantime, thank you so much for all your support. He's a very special boy and I'm a mess at the moment.

I'm so deeply deeply sorry about this diagnosis. I wish I had chosen the route of palliative care with Beanie's also. My thoughts will be with you and Murphy during this time. :grouphug

This is so unfair, but Murphy is so blessed to have found someone who really loved him to be there for him during this time. Can you just imagine him still in that backyard alone going through this :(.

I'm so sorry. Murphy is so lucky to have found a home where he will get all the love and affection he deserves. I'm sure you will spoil him as much as you can. Be sure to take lots of photos, I'm so glad I had lots of all my angels.

He was waiting to leave with love. I'm so sorry. No judgement here. You know what's best for him and your family. Sometimes the treatments can take more out of you than the illness.

:nod Exactly this. I will only add that our hounds live in the moment and don't seem to understand why we are so sad. Cherish every moment you have together.

I am so sad and sorry to read this. I hope Murphy has many more good days with your family. No matter how long they stay, they never stay long enough.

I am so so sorry. No judgment here. Love him. There's joy to be experienced and memories to be made even in the final days. And he knows he's loved.

I'm so sorry. I know how tough this is but - I believe Patrick sent him your way. He knew you'd take good care of him and show Murphy the same love you showed Patrick. You may have thought you needed Murphy. Patrick knew Murphy needed you.

I am so sorry. As others have already said, this is beyond unfair. I know one thing, the days he will remember will be the days with you and the love he receives.

No judgements. This started long before you ever knew Murphy. All he will know with you is love, and tennis balls, and food and cuddles and everything that is wonderful in his life. What an amazing gift that is to give him. Love. Love. Love.

For you, this is beyond unfair and so very sad. Hold on to the fact that you are giving Murphy the very best life he could have.

Thank goodness the Predisone seems to be working very quickly. Already the lymp nodes I can see are substantially smaller, hopefully that means some of the internal swelling is down and Murphy will be more comfortable. Other than the rain, he's had a good day--lots of cuddling, a visit to the office staff, a little bit of catching his tennis ball before he settled back down to cuddle it, mommy buying him a ton of chicken at Costco.

Here's a classic Murphy photo--he loves this bed best so we move it from room to room for him:

Sweet little bugger.

It's going to break your heart when it happens but you have done the most wonderful thing

ever for this poor boy. You are giving him love. That's all that counts - he will leave this world

knowing that after being ignored for so long, someone finally came along and loved him for exactly

what he is - a sweet, gentle greyhound.

You've done good. You've helped another one.

:)
