Guest kellybrown Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Saw the Oncologist this morning and the doctor who actually did the amputation. They did a full examination and found that his 4th toe was very swollen and painful upon examination. X-rays showed what they feel is arthritis. He said it looks different than what cancer would look like. The exact words on our discharge summary is: Swollen 4th toe P1-P2 joint with bone proliferation most suspicious for arthritis, although cannot completely rule out early bone metastasis. No pain was found on the rest of his leg or back. We are starting him on Carprofen (anti inflammatory), Clindamycin in case there is an infection and Famotidine. He said since this leg now bares all of the weight, this could cause the arthritis to flare up. We go back in a month for a recheck. I fought tears all the way to the vet and tears of joy all the way home. Hugs to all of you who are just now starting this battle or who have already fought and won or fought and lost.
