Hollis
Aww Kari. Big hugs for you. I don't know if this helps but Honey had a 5lb mass on her spleen and had it removed. She was with us for two more years. (Honey was just over 20lbs at the time. So yeah, the mass was almost a quarter of her weight. And she survived!) Wonder
Could the increased heart rate be a result of meds? C'mon Lucky. We're praying for you. It's common with a splenectomy. I asked if it could have anything to do with his hyperthermic issues and he said not really. It's from the chemicals that get released when the spleen is removed. Doc did say he would be better off at home because of his hyperthemic issues but he could keel over without treating the irreg heartbeat. So I really didn't know what to do. I want him home but don't want him to die here either. I am finishing up a few things at home and will go spend the afternoon there with him. kudzu
There is a lot of good news so far. Sorry about the heart issue. Is it arrhythmia? When my boy bloated he had his spleen removed at the same time. He had arrhythmias in the first 24 hrs after surgery. IIRC it is common with splenectomy. I honestly don't know if/how it was treated but it resolved quickly. He was released to come home in 24 hours. BTW, there was a mass on his spleen. It was benign. Sending more good thoughts for Lucky.
NeylasMom
Has he settled down a bit there, or are they able to sedate him a bit so he can handle being there a bit better? It's a tough call - no advice, just hoping he gets past this little hump and is well on the road to recovery soon. If you decide to keep him there, would your mom or one of your friends stay at your house with your other dogs so you can stay at the kennel with him. Maybe take some mats or pillows to make it more comfortable for you? Wonder
Update Sat afternoon Good news and bad news. Bad news- he is staying another night. Good news- he is responding to the lidocane treatment to regulate his heartbeat. They have him on a drip so that's why he has to stay. I am going there around 1:30 and will spend the afternoon with him. Quote Kari and the pups.Run free sweet Hana 9/21/08-9/12/10.
