Guest greytfulhounds
Someone else already mentioned it but I was going to ask if they had ruled out LP?? Some of what you are describing sound like my Hunter, who has LP. Hope you find some answers soon.

Guest BrianRke
My bridge girl, Cleo, exhibited these same symptoms. No local vet could determine what was causing it so we took her to Virginia Tech. After a week, they discovered a heart tumor (hemangiosarcoma). I hope its nothing as serious as this. Guest HHHounds
My Candyman hacked, an xray showed the Venacava putting pressure on his trachea. Our vet put him on enalapril, lasix and vetmedin. We adjusted lasix to help with symptoms. The medicine helped control his symptoms for about 8 months. He did have some autoimmune issues as well and we sent him to the bridge in June.

Charlies_Dad
Well the news is not good. Jack is now in the hospital and will remain there to get him stable. The cardio was quite shocked at the size of his heart and what is so baffling is how it progressed so fast. The x-rays in July show a larger than 'normal' heart however it seems to have drastically got worse very recently as he only started to show the signs in the last two weeks. We went from a 1/2 of 6 murmur in July to a 3/4 now. The cardio was actually surprised how good Jack looked considering his heart and that he had not fainted or shown any other more serious signs. So our boy will remain in hospital for the next two days and is going through assessment today to determine the exact protocol to follow. We hope that the call later today brings news that he can be stabilized and live comfortably on meds for the undetermined future. If you can spare good thoughts for Jack, it would be appreciated as this has taken us aback some that he is so ill. We should have insisted on a cardio referral back in July when told his heart was large so we have left our sweet boy down which we swore we would never do. greytpups
Here's hoping you can find the right protocal soon. You made the best decision based on the information at the time. Try not to feel so bad, you don't know if the outcome would be the same or not, had you seen a cardiologist earlier. Jack will get better, he has the GT community praying for him. Guest Tes623
Good thoughts being sent to Jack and you! Don't feel guilty or beat yourself up about not getting the referral sooner--there's no way you could have known that it would have progressed so quickly
Guest larock
Sending good healing thoughts for Jack, and for you and your wife too. Please don't beat yourself up over this - there is no guidebook for situations like this and you're doing the best you can for Jack. dante2zoe
Oh, wow, I am sorry! I hope he stabilizes soon. As others have said, don't secondguess yourself. You did what you thought best with the information that you had. If I understand it correctly, the vet was more matter-of-fact about it than concerned, so why would you be? My vet didn't send us to a cardiologist until his murmur became much louder. The first vet that heard it two years ago wanted him to go RIGHT THEN. I didn't and it wouldn't have changed anything anyway.
