Teagan Is Limping

Teagan was putting some more weight on the leg this morning, but the swelling had moved from his wrist area up to his shoulder. The whole leg was swollen. :( So off to the vet.

But I have some good news! :) His x-rays looked great. No abnormalities in the long bones, and the carpals looked good too. Phew!

The two theories are either an infection, or a soft tissue injury. Shaving the area revealed a small scab near his wrist, so he might have had a wound that introduced bacteria, and now it's infected. Or the scab is unrelated, and he has a strain from zoomies. His x-rays showed the swelling in the tissue, it was opaque white instead of more see-through. He was not running a fever, but the swelling traveling up the leg makes me think infection.

He's on Cephalexin and Deramaxx for 14 days, then we'll get a check-up. Fingers crossed the swelling goes down in the next day or two. :goodluck

Thanks for all the good thoughts! I am so glad the news wasn't worse.

Don't you love the relief without actually knowing for sure what's going on? Mixed blessing for sure.

Keeping Teagan in my prayers for a quick and uneventful healing.

He's still favoring that leg, but the swelling is waaay down. :)

Seeh20, my brother suggested the same thing, a spider bite. Who knows! We don't have the bad ones in CT (I think?) that cause necrotic tissue, etc. But an allergic reaction or infection from a bite is certainly a possibility. We may never know the cause.
