Guest candt Posted August 19, 2011 Share Posted August 19, 2011 (edited) True passed away suddenly today. just the night before, she was running and playing in the yard with me and her dad. at 10:30 am this morning, we were relaxing in the living room when suddenly she jumped up and ran to the back door. i went to let her out and she went into the yard and hunched her back weirdly and peed standing up. she then got really wobbly and could hardly walk. i rushed her to the vet and they thought it was a spinal problem so they set up an immediate appointment at the emergency vet hospital with the neurologist. she was having a hard time walking and even standing up and was holding her head really low to the ground. she vomited a couple of times. the vet determined that he thought maybe it was a bulging disk or stroke or tumor in her brain as all four legs were very unsteady and she was having serious balance problems. she was the most distressed that i have ever seen her and very out of it. so i left her there for them to do an MRI. while they did the initial tests before they would do the MRI, they found air in her abdominal cavity and i authorized emergency surgery. when there is air in there, there can also be fluid and bacteria and the neurologist thought maybe her balance and other problems were from an infection that got to her brain. and how the fluid/air got in there? thh vet said it could have been an ulcer, or cancer, or something else. we will probably never know. so on the way to the surgery, she went into cardiac arrest. and now she is gone. but we really feel that it was a blessing that she was a lively 13 year old that was happy and fine even up to this morning. she was only in pain from 10:30 until 1:30 when they put her on pain medicine. we also feel blessed that we didnt have to make the decision to put her to sleep and that nature did that on its own. and we feel blessed that she was in our lives and treasure every day we had with her. i know i dont post on here much any more, but i met so many of you in dewey the few times i went and used to post on here so much (as username ceelo), that i just wanted to let you all know. i am hoping that she is running with lucy's greyhound riley and his cousin nikki in the great field in the sky. How awful it is to watch someone you love suffer, she played last night!! So she lived to the very end of her life, what a blessing. When this awful raw pain goes away you will still miss her terribly but you will know without question that it was meant to be.
