I'm confused. If its in the bone wouldn't Dodge need a bone biopsy? When I went through this with Lexi I was told that the biopsy was painful & therefore opted not to do it.

Forgot to add sorry that this is happening to Dodge. As others have said we've all gone through it & lord knows it is not easy.

An FNA can be done - we had Tyler's done since his bone tumor did not have the classic sunburst pattern. A bone biopsy is indeed painful, and you run the risk of breaking the bone.

Here's what I know...and please forgive me if I don't respond after this, till Sunday evening or later...I am preparing for this weekend and also working ....and I'm VERY behind.

Dodge will go with me to Maryland and Richmond this weekend. On Monday morning...he will go to the specialist locally and get blood work done...and a chest x-ray (3-way)...if those are good...the amputation will be done Monday afternoon.

Please keep my Baby Dodge in your prayers...that all will go well with the x-rays and blood work...and then the amputation.

To say I'm scared for Dodge is an understatement! :weep :weep

I'm trying to leave...but wanted to give a small update...

Well...last night I didn't think that Dodge was going to be able to make the reunion picnic for our greyhound group...he could barely go outside to relieve himself...much less come back in and walk to the living room. I started the new meds and herbal remedies yesterday...and this morning he surprised us by getting up and putting more weight on his leg...didn't act like he was bored with his reg. chow (which I have to admit I made it tasty enough that he wouldn't turn his nose up)...then we went out to potty...and limped all the way to the back field...which he hadn't done in almost a week. Then he walked back in and went straight back to the living room.

A few hours later....I was picking chicken that I had cooked for his food...and guess who came in to see if samples were being given? Yep... Dodge did. He of course got some too! Then a little bit ago...he had to go out again...and again he went way out and then trotted back. The swelling in his leg has gone down a little too...so that was probably why he was in so much pain and hardly getting around. Last night...the pain was pretty bad...and I had decided that I wasn't going camping with him...he just wouldn't make it...and would be more comfortable at home...but I guess he's trying to prove me wrong??

So...this weekend is for Dodge...one last weekend as a four legged pupper. If the blood tests or x-rays come bad on Monday prior to the amputation...we're going to put him down possibly the same day. If we can't amputate...then I'm not going to let him suffer with the pain...or worry that he could break the leg just standing up.

I hope he enjoys himself this weekend...I have all his drugs and herbal remedies ready to go...now I just need to pack myself and get the van ready.
