I emailed Jean Dodds this am and asked about Wayne. She recommends having it surgically removed to insure clean margins. She also said there's a chance it's not a melanoma. So tomorrow morning I will schedule the procedure. Please keep Wayne in your thoughts and thank you!

I so agree with the surgical excision...besides...this is going to come back as benign! :D

Spoke with my vet earlier this am. First thing he said is we can not say it's a melanoma by just looking at it. So much for what the other vet said. It may be, but it may not be. His advice is NOT to freeze it and like many of you have said, clean margins are crucial. He prefers to do it with a laser because of its location. He said with the laser there will be less bleeding and a better healing time. So, my boy will go in January 6th at 7:30am. That's the first opening they have for surgery. Please keep Wayne in your thoughts and prayers. This boy is petrified of the vet and has never had to stay and will also not be happy with being in a cage. Thank you everyone!

Knowing nothing about laser surgery, will it be possible for your vet to stain and send the excised tissue to a path lab for analysis?

Joining the chant................................

Oh yes, it'll be sent out to the lab. I didn't really understand the difference and learned it's just using a laser to cut vs a blade

Oh, lasers are my new thing! Brilly had a nasty bite on his throat (naughty Pogo!), which was cleaned up with a laser and sewn up in tiny stitches, and it was trouble-free, and is almost invisible, now. As I understand it, the laser causes much less bruising and damage than even a really sharp scalpel, and cauterizes as it goes, for minimal trauma and scar tissue. :)

Joining the chant!

Excellent! Diagnosis can't be made without a pathologist looking at the specimen...the vet can speculate...but until it's outta there...they have no definitive diagnosis. I hope they can use the laser. Kiss Wayne for me...he and the Flashman are soul brothers. :grouphug

I will add to the chant as well. I am so glad that this is being done with a laser - we had excellent healing with Suzy. And we are still praying - Benign, benign, benign!!!

I'm glad about using the laser as well. Not only do I remember what you told me, but the vet also explained the benefits. Only difference is Wayne will be put under, it's not being done with a local

More prayers, good thoughts, hugs and kisses for Wayne. :hope:candle:goodluck:grouphug:kiss2

Hopefully he won't have to be in a cage long. Amy did so horrible when she had to stay at the vet's once that they had to have a tech stay in the cage with her. :blush
