  1. 1 1/2%-2% for maintenance, so 3% would be a good start for weight gain. You can adjust as you go, depending on your dog's metabolism. For example, I am feeding 73lb Conner as much as I fed 90lb Fletcher because Conner has a harder time keeping weight on. I feed thawed food, some people like partially frozen. Choice is yours, and what Ruby prefers. Pork can be a little rich, but I have a friend whose dog is allergic to beef who feeds mainly pork with no problem. If you can find baby back ribs on sale that would be a good start, ribs are pretty soft bones. Pork necks are also an option, but both will need some more meat added. Fish is fine if she will eat it. Some dogs love it, some don't. Small fish (sardines, etc) can be give whole. Skin, bones are fine. It seems complicated at first, while you are fine tuning what your dog prefers and what works for you, but it really is easy once you get started and yes, you can mix kibble & raw!
  2. I am so very sorry, Teo was clearly a very special boy
  3. Ginger is very good for nausea, just sayin'
  4. You can try putting something next to the sofa for him to use as a step (I used a crib mattress) It worked well for my old boy who loved the sofa. OTOH I had just about decided to block the sofa for Charley last year when she slipped trying to get up and broke her leg She had osteo, a slip won't cause a break for a healthy dog, but he could still hurt himself. If it were me, I would block him at night and when I wasn't home.
  5. That is great news! After Molly's one dose of chemo (we stopped after 1) she refused to eat for two days. Go Taylor
  6. I know it is scary, but many heart conditions are manageable with meds. Seeing a cardiologist is the best thing you can do for him. I had a girl with a couple of heart problems that lived to 12 1/2, my oldest grey so far
  7. I add it in the winter when the dog's skin gets flakey, but am too lazy to use it year round. I use it a lot in my own cooking as well, perfectly safe.
  8. This is disturbing, and makes me even more glad that my dogs at least eat raw. If I could just convert the cats...
  9. I am so sorry This is one of the hardest things we have to do, but it is one of the greatest gifts we can give them
  10. an old sweatshirt is another option for a temporary solution. I have used both the Ruffwear and Carol's harness. Both are good, the Ruffwear is sturdier, but I wouldn't leave it on all the time, it is meant to be put on when needed and then taken off. Carol's is softer, and you can leave it on all the time.
  11. Sounds good! I switch mine cold turkey as well, but I get using up the kibble You can continue to fine tune, add and subtract things as you see how he does.
  12. Erika, I am so sorry. After all the two of you have been through, I was hoping he would get better.
  13. She is gorgeous, and looks like she is living up to that reputation that Blues have
  14. I don't have any suggestions, but I do know how frustrating it can be to know something is wrong, but be able to figure out what.
  15. I have noticed as my animals get older, they become more affectionate. This has been true of all of them, regardless of their health. Enjoy
