    Sallie has a toe that she has dislocated several times, but never needed surgery to fix. The last time it was splinted and kept that way for 6-8 weeks (I forget exactly how long we actually kept it on) The vet did say that if it popped out again we would probably have to remove it, but so far it has stayed in place.

    you were wonderful in recognizing the possibility of this (to me) rare condition and getting him in to the vet. hope he is doing better this morning

    I had something like that pop up on one of my dogs. It was firm, but not boney hard, and not obviously fluidy either. Didn't seem to cause any pain, in fact she acted like she didn't even know it was there. Vet confirmed, bad bruise/contusion. I have no idea how she got it, but it eventually went away. hope that is all it is!

    Agree that it could be a neck/spine problem, and those can take a long time (weeks) to resolve. Pain meds, muscle relaxers, limited exercise, and time
