  1. I have no idea, but wondering if your partner is sleeping on Maxi's side of the bed, or you are ? It might be that Maxi wants to remain close to you, and your partner is in the way visually.
  2. I am so sorry..........rest now sweet Riley
  3. I just bought 3 at Costco for a very good price, but was recently told that you are not supposed to put rugs with the rubber backing on hardwood floors. Is that correct ? I just recently put in hardwood, so have nothing down on the floors yet. Ruby is not a fan, but it has slowed her running in the house. I have not opened the rugs I bought yet. Have you heard this too ? If so, how do you keep the rugs in place ?
  4. I second the Rachel Ray Grain Free. Ruby has done well on all 3 flavors, and seems to like it more than others.
  5. Agree with this. Her not even wanting soft food doesn't sound right.
  6. Poor guy.........and poor you. Hope his tummy settles down soon.
  7. Please let us know what happens with your guy.........
  8. Yay, glad it worked !!! I tried Acepromazine on Ruby last night, and it was horribly sad. I tried to give her one in a pill pocket, but the little stinker chewed up the pocket, and spit out the pill. It was pretty wet though. Then I gave her another pill in some cream cheese. Within a half hour, she was out. Ignoring the fireworks, but out cold. When I put her out a couple hours later to potty, she couldn't walk and we had to help her. She went out, laid on the grass, and never did potty. My husband brought her in and helped her to her crate, where she didn't move all night. This morning she is still groggy. I had tried 1/2 a pill a week ago with no results. So I don't know if she got part of the one she spit out or not. Tonight I will give half, then add by the quarter if needed. I hate fireworks !
  9. I know that Flagyl can cause pretty severe stomach upset in humans, so wonder if maybe he is experiencing a lot of stomach pain and cramping from that ? No other ideas, but hope you can get to the bottom of this and your guy feels better soon.
  10. I may have to look into this for Ruby. I recently switched her over to Rachel Ray grain free, but after the first few days, she seems to not be interested in it. I have to doctor it up with liver sprinkles, broth and other treats to get her to eat it at all. Her coat is also looking dull, so another reason to give it a try.
  11. My vet always draws from the legs and not the neck. I used to draw blood daily in my job, and occasionally a large hematoma would appear if the person pulled off the bandage too quickly, or I did not hold it long enough, especially on people who were on blood thinners. We always recommended they use warm compresses, and the larger ones take about a week to absorb back. Treat them like a bruise.
  12. I have no idea if this will help or not, but I just read about getting a splinter out of a child who won't let you use a needle. You soak the area with warm water, then apply a paste of water and baking soda. Let it sit for a couple hours, and they say the splinter will have come to the surface. Might be worth a try.
  13. Ruby was doing the same thing for a while, and the vet said that she seemed to have a bruised trachea. Come to find out, my husband was scratching her neck too hard, and causing some swelling. Their neck areas are very thin the vet said, and my husband was just a bit too rough. He stopped scratching her there, she stopped coughing.
  14. Goodbye Benny.......wishing you lots of sweet memories of your special boy.
  15. I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy......
  16. I am pretty sure that Ruby has some hearing loss too. Lately we have to yell or bang on something hard to get her to notice we are there. She doesn't seem to hear me walking up to the door to let her in until I open it. The last 2 days she has acted completely normal again. Poor girl, I don't want her to age............
  17. Yes, her eyes have been checked, and all looks well with them. She will NOT pee or poo on a leash. She never has, never will. We have walked her miles and miles, and she will wait until she is back in our yard, behind her favorite shrub to poop. So leash walking at night just makes both of us cold and tired.
  18. Thank you all for the replies. I have tried every anxiety med I could find OTC, and nothing has helped her. The lightning is mainly just the loud thunder here. We do not see a huge flash of light in our area more than once every few years. She seems to see and hear fine, I asked the vet to check both when we were there. 9 seems young to me for dementia, but I just read an article about a man that has Alzheimers at age 29. I guess we won't really know if this is what it is or not, but her symptoms sound like it. I will investigate the Vivitonin. I asked the vet about meds, and he said that they really don't work, just a way for the companies to make money. I will still ask him again. No problems tonight after last turn out. She ran right in the house and into her cage. Good day for her.
